Revolving around a troubled father and daughter relationship, Lee Jeong Chul's ambitious directorial debut A Family, which won him a Best New Director trophy at the 25th Blue Dragon Awards, is loosely based on his own real-life experiences. Popular actress Soo Ae makes her silver screen debut as the film's rebellious heroine, while veteran actor Joo Hyun gives a convincing portrayal as a father that stubbornly adheres to traditional principles.

Having completed a two-year prison term for robbery, Jeong Eun (Soo Ae) returns home, unsure of what will await her. Jeong's relationship with her father Ju Seok (Joo Hyun), a retired policeman, has always been strained, and the two can barely even hold a conversation. When Jeong's sincere intentions to start anew by running a beauty parlor are only met with her father's cold rejection, the desperate girl tries to find other sources of support, which leads to unexpected consequences.

    A touching film about the love of a father whose daughter thought he caused her mother's death until she found out the truth behind her father's eye accident. Not a bad movie.

     Powerful family story Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
    "A Family" is a moving portrait of a deeply troubled family. Daughter Jeong-eun is released from a three year prison term to find that she is unwelcome in her family. Father Ju-seok has been crushed by life's circumstances; he has suffered the loss of his wife, the loss of an eye, the loss of his career with the police, and now is facing the loss of his life due to leukemia. The last thing he wants is his wayward daughter returning to the family and influencing his sweet young son. But what he wants and what he needs are two very different things. Great performances, crisp direction, an absorbing and emotionally satisfying story make this film well worth watching. Very highly recommended.

    this movie is really touching...an great love between a father and a daughter. soo ae is such a fine actress, she deserved the wards she's been getting for her potrayal. :)
