YesAsia Editorial Description

Big Bang leader G-Dragon is releasing his first solo album! Hitting shelves on August 18 - G-Dragon's 21st birthday - Heartbreaker has been a long time coming as it was originally scheduled for April, but it's been well worth the wait. Having crafted many of Big Bang's biggest hits, the talented idol lays down the rhymes and beats, updating the Big Bang sound for his solo effort. Though he's flying solo this time, G-Dragon did team up with other YG Entertainment labelmates and musicians on the album, including Jin Jung for the mid-tempo ballad Butterfly, Teddy and 2NE1's CL for The Leadership, KUSH for She's Gone, 2NE1's Dara for Hello, and bandmate Tae Yang for Korean Dream. G-Dragon also crossed over with veteran singer Kim Gun Mo in the exciting collaboration Gossip Man, bringing together two trend-setting K-pop superstars of different generations.

Awesome Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I am not really the type to buy CDs... More often that not I just borrow my friends' or ask them to burn a CD for me so i can put it in my ipod.

I am a huge Big Bang fan but not a huge fan of GD (I love Daesung! XD) but wow when I got this album I thought I would be like man I shouldnt have bought this album... I should just have borrowed my friends' but no!! I absolutely love it! I love GD more now too, it was just cool cuz when he raps from Korean to English or vice versa it was very fluid, its not really awkward:-D And I love that I could hear Teddys voice in this album cuz I am in love with him haha <3

Wish GD all the best in his career! VIP Love <3

PS
I think Butterfly and The Leaders are the best songs in this album:-D

Amazing ! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10

Futuristic G-Dragon Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
For an album having disconcerting trouble with plagiarism and the like, certain positives are as much evident here. The visual concept of G-Dragon as a good reflective hybrid style and is well conceived having consistencies with the good songs featured. Androgynous Heartbreaker (does a girl break G-Dragon’s ‘conceptual’ heart or is G-Dragon a reflective heartbreaker himself? It's that 'apple' influence again) and anger (the red mist?) makes for a gritty and edgy listen contrasted by danceable hip-hop fusion and heart-warming songs.

I'm open to many song types and “Heartbreaker” and “Breathe” are certainly good whatever their influence. From a more rock n roll back ground though makes “Gossip Man” more immediate for me, with it's pop-rock melody. “The Leaders” as a Warriors element about it and of course the SNSD Gee reference is relating to Gee-Dragon’s ‘leader’ status (a tongue in cheek-y nod and wink to SNSD?). “Butterfly” I relate to by the more acoustic styled music and ballad folk, but of course the emphasis on “Heartbreaker” is the fusion hip-hop of the G-Man and the majority of songs (Heartbreaker, The Leaders) are exactly that. By the song similarities maybe they're complimentary. Many pop songs have hybrid and re-used riffs and sequences (Marc Bolan used a riff with his “Jeepster” from a Howlin' Wolf Blues song called "You'll Be Mine," written by Willie Dixon) and the most ‘re-used’ music as been classical, where copyrights have never been an issue. So G-Dragon doesn’t deserve to be thrown into the spotlight with this. What really counts for me, though, is to make the songs as unique as possible and certainly avoid slicing song riffs to suit. Although it’s very difficult to ascertain distinctive songs these days. But it would be a shame if G-Dragon only sold albums to controversy and hype alone, so hopefully the next one furthers the decent quality and energy of the positive points of “Heartbreaker”. K-pop’s got a good ‘energy’ and vibrancy at present and that’s what makes it all ‘electric’. For K-poppers, keep it up, but always look for those fresh byroads to broaden the medium and create some ‘yet to be’ ground breaking music.

Packaging is future collectible, but the outer plastic case can be hit and miss. They may scratch in production and can break apart sometimes. I would prefer to see special packaging more like 2NE1’s 1st Mini than the ice rink scratched box here, but you’ll have a rarity with this one-day.

I Heart Heartbreaker Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I brought this album not knowing anything about G Dragon or Bigbang, I just thought the cover looked good so I took a gamble.....and hey I hit the jackpot.
Heartbreaker is a completely refreshing album being a mixture of electro pop, hip hop and R & B. Think La Roux meets Kanye West meets Dizzy Rascal meets Lady Gaga (sorry if you don't know some of these artists as they may be just UK based). Yep Heartbreaker has it all from soft drifty ballads with rap elements, banging tunes worthy of any killer club and upbeat pop anthems perfect for driving real fast to!!!! In truth there really isn't one song on this album that I dislike but of course highlights include heartbreaker, breathe, butterfly and she's gone. For a English speaker G Dragon's mixture of Korean and English works perfectly allowing you to sing along with most the coruses while trying to the rap along to the korean parts (I apologise to any Korean speakers who happen to here me do this cause I am really bad!!!)
As for the presentation of the CD, what can I say but its something that is truely amazing and put any normal jewel cd case to shame! The cover is a plastic mini mould of GD's face, yes GDs face for you to idolize, its a piece of art in its own right!!!! Then you get a lovely booklet showing GD in all his hottness in a range of fantastic clothes (I really want that phone jacket!!!!) looking all cool and moody!!!!
Overall from the presentation to the music itself G Dragon's Heartbreaker is my album of 2009 and its beats anything that has been in the UK and Europe charts this summer!
Come on take a chance on it like me and you won't be dissapointed!!!!!!
