The 2011 KBS romantic melodrama The Thorn Birds revolves around two women who share the same pain and struggles of growing up without a mother, but take very different paths to achieve their dreams. Han Hye Jin (Jumong) plays part-time actress Jung Eun, a strong, young woman who stays true to herself through the toughest times, and even takes in her another's child as her own. Kim Min Jung (New Heart) is Jung Eun's friend Yoo Kyung, an aspiring director who sacrifices love, friendship, family, and her own soul in her climb to the top.

The drama's title refers to a mythical bird that seeks to impale itself with the sharpest thorn of the thorn tree, for only by experiencing the greatest pain can the thorn bird sing its most beautiful song. Will Jung Eun and Yoo Kyung be able to rise above the pain of their birth and find love and success, or will they fall to fate? This is the story of two women; Seo Jung Eun and Han Yoo Kyung who have very different paths to pursue their goals. A mythical bird that searches for thorn trees from the day it is hatched. When it finds the perfect thorn, it impales itself, and sings the most beautiful song ever heard as it dies.
