2011 has been a breakout year for Korean pop acts in Japanese music, and one of the most successful examples is the girl group Kara. Exactly one year after their hit Japanese debut album Girl's Talk, the girls are back with the highly anticipated second album Super Girl. The album features hit singles Go! Go! Summer, Winter Magic, and their first Oricon number one single Jet Coaster Love! In addition to the ten new tracks, Super Girl also contains three bonus tracks, including the Japanese version of Kara's latest Korean hit STEP.

This edition comes with a bonus DVD featuring the director's cut of the Go! Go! Summer music video, the close-up version of the Winter Magic music video, the STEP music video, a live performance of Jet Coaster Love, off shot footage from the album jacket shoot, and off shot footage from the single jacket shoot.

Go Go Kara with Dreaming Girl! ;) Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Listening to Kara’s “Super Girl” I not only found it to have very nice new songs, but I’m also liking Kara’s previous songs of “Step”, “Mister” and even “Jumping” a lot more, as I wasn’t initially bowled over by them. Hearing them fresh again and in a different vibe, I find the intricateness of their brash sweet pop more clever and appealing. Kara’s Japanese songs “Winter Magic”, “Jet Coaster Love” and “Go Go Summer” are present also, and these bright, cute and simple ditties can also seem at first throwaway pop. But I’m not convinced of that! Kara’s upbeat tunes are a tonic if you feel out of sorts (you know, you get out of bed and trip over the dog, bang your nose on the wardrobe door, the clothes rail breaks leaving clothes strewn over the floor and your mum/manger/boss simultaneously calls you to ‘hurry up fast’…with what ever ‘fast’ you’ve gotta do) and they’re also intricately produced dance/ballads that additionally reflect Kara’s character types. Kara’s songs have worked their magic on me. Anyway, looking at the “Super Girl” track list you’ll (a) see a lot of songs you may already have on CD, and (b) wonder if the new songs are similar to Kara’s 2011 Japanese songs. Well, (a) it’s part compilation and (b) not on your nelly! The new songs are Kara at their best and the pop-rock “Dreaming Girl” is a belter (as we say in the UK) and certainly pricked my attention when this track started! Kara in biker leathers with this live? Not arf – fans will love it! “Do It Do It” is also good and more like Kara’s Korean stuff, melodic electro pop. The Kara way of course.

English track list: 1. Jet Coaster Love 2. Winter Magic 3. Go Go Summer 4. Dreaming Girl (very nice!) 5. I want to send “Thank You” Now 6. Only For You 7. Whisper (very sweet) 8. Missing (with a fun beat like GGSummer) 9. Do It Do It (the other good new one!) 10. Girls, Be Ambitious (Bonus Japanese versions of Mister, Jumping and Step).

DVD edition features the following: Go Go Summer (director’s MV cut); Love Roller Coaster (Live TV performance – CJ Media Japan); Winter Magic clip (close up version); Step (MV); Super Girl (photo shoot of CD sleeves) and Winter Magic (sleeve photo shoot). I don’t know if this Kara Japanese video material will be released on alternative versions (Korean, Taiwanese etc) if money is tight. But, hey, this CD/DVD album works its magic. Good to hear Gyuri is okay after her nodule op by the way. Please take care girls!
