26 Years Diary (DVD) (Korea Version)

YesAsia Editorial Description

On January 21, 2001, 26-year-old Korean student Lee Soo Hyun tragically passed away while trying to save a man who had fallen onto the train tracks at Shin-Okubo Station in Tokyo. This is the story of his life.

Directed by Hanado Junji (Kools, Yume Oikakete), the Korean-Japanese co-production 26 Years Diary (a.k.a. Anata wo Wasurenai) presents a vibrant and heartfelt look at an abbreviated life, lived in full. Hanado, who based his screenplay on interviews with Lee's friends and family, and leading man Lee Tae Sung bring to screen the extraordinary story of a normal twenty-something student who heroically gave his life trying to save a stranger. Though some elements of the biopic are fictionalized, including the protagonist's budding romance with a Japanese street musician played by Onaga Maki of J-rock band HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR in her film debut, 26 Years Diary remains remarkably grounded and engaging in its depiction of the experiences of a Korean student in Japan. The film captures both the realistic struggles with discrimination and the romanticized excitements of youth that shaped Lee's life up to that fateful winter day.

Note: This film is primarily in Japanese. DVD release comes with Korean subtitles only.
