村おこしのために闘牛大会を開催するような田舎に暮らすチョ・ピルソン。年上の女房に頭が上がらないような情けない男だが、村人からはそれなりに信頼を寄せられている刑事だ。ある日、闘牛大会の優勝候補に関する強力な情報を手に入れた彼は妻のヘソクリを賭けて大儲けするのだが、こともあろうにそのお金を強盗に奪われてしまう。その強盗は、数年前から全国で指名手配されている脱走犯ソン・ギッテだった。盗られたお金を取り戻すべく、ピルソンはソン・ギッテの捜索に乗り出すのだが…。
