"Law & Order" stories...
| While most of the stories in this book share a similar style with the popular TV series "Law & Order," these stories based in Hong Kong, and we shouldn't forget, most of the stories in "Law & Order" based on true real-life crime stories as well. Therefore, we can't say Yik Shu's stories mimick "Law & Order," but I do think that Yik Shu should have mentioned where did she get inspired to write this series of stories as a courtesy. For example, the famous award-winning movie "Lost in Translation" was inspired by a Hong Kong's director, Wong Kar Wai. Not only is this a courtesy and a reference, it also clears some unnecessary arguments. Yik Shu was educated in England, she should know this the best... |

Please stop copying!
| This is not the first time Yi Shu has copied information and used them in her storied. In recent years. many of her books have copied stories from main stream media in North America. I understand that she lives in Vancover now and she is exposed to the same media information as her North American readers. But it would be nice if she puts a little effort into actually creating a story as suppose to copying a little bit from everything she reads and watches. The biggest part of a writer's creative process is coming up with story ideas. While it is ok to use real world locations and settings, it is not ok to simply copy other writer's ideas. |
