陳永昌(許冠傑飾)，楊正男(鄭文雅飾)結婚逾十年，有一女美斯和一子湯美 (小彬彬飾)，天真活潑且懂事。夫婦因性格不合而分居。子歸陳永昌，而女則歸楊正男撫養，搬返公公(石天飾)家暫住。為此，公公及孫兒時刻千方百計令夫婦兩人和好。不久，永昌認識女友連達(甄妮飾)，而正男亦交上新歡佐治。兩小孩各施計謀排斥及戲弄對方新歡，但告失敗，傷心之餘，竟離家出走。湯美與美斯千辛萬苦走到一間寺院，祈求上天保佑父母復合，思前想後，抱頭痛哭。此時，永昌與正男找到寺院來，聽到兩個小孩的童真說話，大受感動，夫婦冰釋前嫌，闔家團聚。
The ten-year marriage of Chan Wing-cheong (Sam Hui) and Nancy Yeung (Olivia Cheng) ended up in separation about a year ago. Consequently, their cheerful and intelligent children, Maisy and Tommy are forced to live apart. Tommy is in the custody of his father while Maisy is staying with her mother and grandfather (Dean Shek). It doesn't take long for a steady companionship to blossom between Wing-cheong and Linda (Jenny Yan) and Nancy and George (Melvin Wong). Both children and their grandfather are upset about the two couples' new affair. The trio tries every means to interfere and jeopardize the romance. Unfortunately, all efforts and tricks fail to cool down the courtship. The children are so disappointed that they run away from home to a temple. Tommy and Maisy pray wholeheartedly to the god, begging their divine power to reinstate a happy family. The sight of the vulnerable children melt the parent's hearts. All difference has to give way to the rejoicing family reunion.
