內容簡介
青年劉墉因和坤弄權兒科考末中，一氣之下，惡作劇地把“貢院”大匾改為“賣完”，引出乾隆皇帝親試，和坤為劉墉磨墨脫靴、六王爺招劉墉為婿等情節，開始了劉墉、乾隆皇帝、和坤三人相鬥、相隨、相依的故事。
劉墉任江寧知府後，嚴加禁娼，導致了乾隆鬧青樓，夜審皇上，以及縣官獻麒麟，扮和尚弄假成真等誤會與故事。劉墉常使皇帝窘迫，又得皇帝賞識。之後，中年的劉墉官至一品，與貪官和坤的關係更趨激化。他曾巧反文字獄，也曾智辦真假乾隆，他被連降十八級當了守門官，也與大畫家鄭皮橋諧趣……
乾隆六十年，乾隆退位為太上皇，劉墉告老還鄉。乾隆于嘉慶三年駕繃，大喪之日，和坤被誅。
After Liu Yong is appointed Prefect of Jiangnign. He strictly prohibits prostitution which leads to stories about the Emperor Qian Long making a big scene in a house of pleasure, the questioning of the emperor at night, the county magistrate paying tribute. Liu Yong always tries to embarrass the emperor while keeping in the emperor's good graces, Middle-aged Liu Yong eventually becomes a high court official and the disputes between Liu Yong and the corrupt official He Shen becomes ever more sinter and jealous. Liu is able to combat the literary inquisition ingeniously and distinguishes between the true and false Emperor Qian Long astutely.
Liu Yong is subsequently demoted to doorkeeper, He develops his wit and humor further with the famous calligrapher, Zheng Banqiao.
In The 60th year of Qian Long's reign, Qian Long abdicates to be overlord and Liu Yong retires, in the third year of the new emperor Jia Qing's reign, the funeral of Qian Long takes place and He Shen is put death at the same time.
