富家子金文欧（乔宏）热爱绘画，无意继承父亲金淳南（李英）之生意，毅然离家出走。後得未婚妻李美莉（谢家骅）相助，与好友张克明（蒋光超）合作开设一间广告画室。
金文欧每以李美莉为广告画之模特儿，创意短绌，客户日渐不满，经济遂陷困境。
一日，某毛衣厂经理魏先生（冯毅）以厚酬委托金文欧绘画新款毛衣品牌「快乐天使」之广告画，但声言一定不能以李美莉为模特儿。金文欧苦煞思量，但为生计，仍然接受委托。
洽谈间，「梅记士多」店主梅婉萍（尤敏）前往画室收取欠款。魏经理见梅婉萍清丽活泼，颇有好感，遂指定以她为广告画模特儿。金文欧徵得梅婉萍及其母亲（马笑侬）同意，邀请她每晚到画室担任模特儿。
某日深夜，金淳南突然病重，派人命儿子带同未婚妻探访。时李美莉外出未归，金文欧为尽孝心，遂请梅婉萍假扮其未婚妻，往见父亲最後一面。金淳南见梅婉萍美丽温柔，善解人意，病势转危为安，并邀请梅婉萍多住三天。梅婉萍不忍金淳南病情加剧，勉强答允。
金文欧姑母云姑姑（王莱）见状大喜，急往梅家说亲。梅母一听大惊，急往金家，深责女儿处事不当。梅婉萍骑虎难下，答应三天之後向金家解释清楚。
李美莉回家之後，得悉金淳南病重之事，急往探望。谁料金家上下均以梅婉萍为金文欧之未婚妻，李美莉备受冷落，大为不悦。金文欧答应三天之後，向父亲说明真相。
三天之後，梅母往接女儿，不料遇上雷雨，金淳南遂邀众人多住一天。李美莉见金文欧不肯解释，愠怒异常，遂起争执。谁料被金淳南无意听到，始知梅婉萍并非未来儿媳，伤心失望。
翌日，众人散去。金文欧请梅婉萍继续担任广告画模特儿，梅婉萍为免纠缠不清，断然拒绝。
未几，金淳南奇迹康复，广宴亲朋，并宣布梅婉萍为未来儿媳。李美莉以为金家有心欺侮，反颜大怒，不准金文欧登门探访，更收回画室业权，画室被逼结业。
金文欧无计可施，向梅婉萍借得士多一角，继续绘画。两人日夕相对，竟然弄假成真，情愫渐长。未几，金文欧完成「快乐天使」之广告画，收款之日，遂向梅婉萍求婚，两人终成美眷。
Artist Jin Wenou came from a rich family but refused to succeed his father Jin Chunnan's business. Instead he left the family and with the support of his fiancee Li Meili he opened a painting workshop with a friend Zhang Keming.
Since then Li had become Jin Wenou's model but his customers were increasingly disappointed with his limited innovation. Business was on the slope and thus Jin Wenou was on the brink of a financial crisis.
One day a sweater factory's manager Mr Wei came to offer Jin Wenou a job to paint an advertisement for a new brand "The Happy Angel". However, he requested that the model should be anyone else but Li. Despite the difficulty to source a suitable model, Jin Wenou was more than happy to accept the job.
During their discussion the owner of Mei's Store Mei Wanping came to collect money from Jin Wenou. Seeing that Mei was beautiful and lively, Mr Wei requested that Mei be the model of the advertisement painting. Jin Wenou then invited Mei to be his model after getting her mother's consent. She would go to the workshop every evening until the painting was finished.
One day after midnight news ran that his father was dying at home and would like to see his son and fiancee for the last time. At that time Li had not returned and Jin Wenou asked if Mei could pretend to be his girlfriend. Miraculously Jin Chunnan's health improved upon seeing his son and Mei, a kind and caring young lady. He even asked if Mei could stay with him for three more days. Mei agreed to avoid discouraging him and thus affecting his health.
Seeing that her brother was so happy with Mei, Jin Wenou's Auntie Yun volunteered to propose to Mei's mother. Shocked and puzzled on hearing the news, Mei's mother went to the Jins' house and asked her daughter what had actually happened. Mei promised that she would explain everything three days later.
Meanwhile, Li hurried to see Jin Chunnan soon after receiving the news. Yet all the people in the Jins' house were convinced that Mei was their mistress-designate and thus gave a cold shoulder to Li. To pacify her anger, Jin Wenou then promised to disclose the truth three days later.
Three days had passed. As Mei's mother came to receive her daughter there was a heavy rainstorm. Jin Chunnan then invited Mei and her mother to spend one more night in his house. For the sake of his father's health Jin Wenou refused to tell him the truth and thus had a quarrel with Li. Jin Chunnan overheard their dispute and was extremely disappointed.
Soon Jin Chunnan made a miraculous recovery and in a banquet announced that Mei was his daughter-in-law-designate. Hearing the news, Li was outrageous and claimed her property rights over Jin Wenou's workshop. He was then forced to close down the workshop and borrowed a corner of Mei's store to carry on with his assignment. Soon Jin Wenou fell in love with Mei and proposed to her on the day he received his payment from Mr Wei.
