2006年に中国・中央電視台（CCTV）で放送された歴史大河ドラマ。中国史上唯一の女帝として唐代に君臨した則天武后の人生を壮大に描いた作品。一般には冷酷非情で恐怖政治を行った悪女とされている則天武后だが、この作品では無二の親友となった民間出身の女官・謝瑤環とのエピソードなど、これまでとは違った側面からも描かれている。大陸の大女優・劉暁慶（リウ・シャオチン）が代表作「武則天」から10年あまりを経て再び則天武后に扮し、40歳から 82歳までを熱演。ほかに「カンフーハッスル」の黄聖依（ホアン・シェンイー）、焦恩俊（ジァオ・エンジュン）らが出演している。西安ロケのほか、30棟もの唐代風建造物を建てたスタジオロケによる迫力の映像、細部まで緻密に再現された衣装や小道具なども見どころだ。
