新加坡歌后李愛蓮（葉楓）攜妹李小蓮（張慧嫻）到香港發展，希望能夠得到富商許兆豐（喬宏）的介紹，在旗下的春風殿夜總會擔任歌手。晚上許兆豐於春風殿為李愛蓮接風，李愛蓮即席高歌一曲，博得全場讚賞；春風殿經理董獻章（高原）見機不可失，答應與她簽約。替李愛蓮伴奏的樂隊領班陶正聲（雷震），對李愛蓮的艷色與歌藝一見傾心，忍不住回家對姊姊陶海音（李湄）提起李愛蓮加盟之事。陶海音本為「香港歌后」，更與許兆豐相戀多年，今見李愛蓮來勢洶洶，既擔心事業受到威脅，又疑心愛人移情別戀，遂決心與李愛蓮爭奪春風殿的演唱合同。 翌日二人分別到春風殿要求簽約，董獻章左右為難，情急智生下，決定同時聘請兩人以單雙日輪流表演，一個月後看成績再談續約。二人互不相讓，同時簽下合同。 簽約後二人毫不示弱，互出奇謀以求打倒對方。陶正聲深愛李愛蓮，只忙著為她伴奏，又介紹她跟唱片公司簽約，因此冷落陶海音。陶海音既不滿弟弟偏心，又妒恨李愛蓮處處爭先，於是出奇制勝，搶在李愛蓮前面於電視節目表演。李愛蓮以為陶正聲從中作梗，對他冷言相向。 陶正聲不滿陶海音的爭勝好強，一氣之下決定不再與姊姊合作，並且離家出走，姊弟關係面臨決裂……
One of the earliest scripts written by director and playwright Chang Cheh, It's Always Spring is a melodrama of romance that represents a sharp contrast to his mastery of masculine and bloody presentations of the martial arts genre in the late 1960s. Despite the number and the complexity of the characters, none of them is a villain. Female leads Tao Haiyin (Helen Li Mei) and Li Ailian (Julie Yeh Feng) are veteran singers from Hong Kong and Singapore who both maintain their integrity in a sophisticated environment. Their lovers Roy Chiao and Kelly Lai Chen, as well as other supporting roles, impress the audience with their kindness and positive personalities. Elegant scenes of singing and nine popular songs have also made It's Always Spring an all-time favorite of MP&GI's musical fans
