中國四大民間傳說之一，梁山伯與祝英台的淒美故事，多次被改為戲曲、電影與電視劇。2007年，由中台的帥哥美女配—何潤東與董潔雙雙演出這對金童玉女，共譜梁祝蝴蝶夢之41集大型古裝劇《梁山伯與祝英台》。這次亦是何潤東繼入行時演首部電影—1994年徐克導演的《梁祝》中亭望春一角後，時隔十多年再次接拍《梁山伯與祝英台》。
被喻為最忠於原著的梁祝版本，2007年電視劇《梁山伯與祝英台》的劇本籌備歷三年，由何潤東飾演平民出身的梁山伯、董潔飾演上虞士族小姐祝英台、陳冠霖飾演杭州太守之子馬文才。由曾執導《啞巴新娘》、《包青天》的台灣著名導演陳俊良任總導演，加上經典樂曲《梁祝》的原創者、音樂家何占豪擔當音樂顧顧顧問，以淒艷絕美的風格拍出梁山伯與祝英台矢死不渝的偉大愛情。何潤東扮演的梁山伯高大帥氣，演繹到位，而花旦董潔溫文柔弱，精通琴棋書畫又懂武功，極具氣質。劇中還有寇振海演尼山書院院長王世玉、岳躍利和鄔倩倩演祝員外和祝夫人、劉芳演梁母。

上虞士族小姐祝英台，排行第九，是父母唯一的女兒。生得聰明嬌美、活潑靈秀、純真執著。從小喜讀詩書，琴棋書畫，無所不能。她不甘世俗，不讓鬚眉，千方百計說服父母，女扮男裝去杭州讀書。出門不久，即遇上曾在月老寺邂逅的會稽窮書生梁山伯。
梁山伯出身平民，家道中落，幼時父親因治水身亡，由母親撫養成人。他性格耿直，憨厚篤誠，一心繼承父志，經世濟人。在去杭州尼山書院的路上遇到女扮男裝的祝英台，兩人意氣相投，結為異姓金蘭。在書院三載，又與英台“日同桌，晚同床”，相互照應，情深義厚。
尼山書院是享譽江南的士族子弟求學入仕的好地方。杭州太守之子馬文才，太原王氏子弟王藍田等也來到了這裡。馬文才風流倜儻，學識一流，加上一身出色的騎射功夫，在書院中雄冠群英。他仗著時任太守的父親和自己的各種優越條件，在學友中聚集一班紈褲子弟，屢與梁山伯、祝英台作對。當山伯品狀排名超過他時，競對山伯痛下殺手；當窺探到英台為女且已愛上梁山伯時，他耍盡陰謀，誓欲奪到英台為妻。

| This is one of the most beautiful gems of tv dramas. Five stars is not enough! Shan Bo and Ying Tai are two names that have become our cultural codes. Didn't expect it to be that wonderful.Peter Ho and Dong Jie have got to be the best choice for this story. Dong has a ethereal, porcelain quality that belies her natural, fresh and delightful acting skill, whereas Peter Ho shines with his exquisite, appealing, winning interpretation of Shan Bo, the boy-man with a heart of gold, arguably a sacrificial lamb to man's base desire and strife. Our love for these two characters might prompt us to ponder on the tragedy, if only this or that didn't happen, Shan Bo and his Love could live happily ever after. But life is full intrigues, regrets, treachery...the inevitable happens, the seed of tragedy is sown right at the beginning. The story introduces a few historical, literay stars of the Jin Dynasty, like Xie Dao Yun, Wang Ning Zhi and Tao Yuan Ming and his peach blossom hermitag, giving sophistication to the drama. It also stresses on the predominant concept of class discrimination, very true to that era. The songs are beautiful and melancholy, (one sung by Peter Ho) and the lyrics are heart-breaking stuff. Piano, violin, erhu, flute, gu zhen, the recurring well-know violin concerto, all add up to jerk tears. Watch the last two episodes while you are home and alone, lest your bloated eyelids, blocked sinuses,and headaches be spotted. You probably needs a few days to get over your heartaches. Have no regrets to commit oneself to such emotions, daily life has too much to turn us cold , practical and unfeeling. Pay my compliment to the professionals behind the scene. The series is full of fun and laughters sometimes and Ho and Qu Xin,who plays Shan Bo and Ying Tai's good friend Xuan Ju Bo, are towering giants, therefore bring out the beauty of their costumes, wonder why we can't wear things like that nowadays. Beware of a monster character with a nice name Gu Xin Lian...otherwise there's not a lot of villains. Ma Wen Cai of course is the main culprit...pathetic though, the tragedy is his masterpiece. In a nutshell: one misses out if one doesn' watch this. Made my commitment to be involved in watching, well worth it! Can still hear the background music of it. There are a lot fictitious details in the drama, but the main structure of the legend that has been passed down through the ages is unchanged. More than a thousand years and more and still remembered and celebrated, it has to be g gem of a story. |

The Butterfly Lovers

This is one of the nicest adaptation of Liang Shan Bo and Zhu Ying Tai, aka The Butterfly Lovers, I've seen in years. I've laughed and I've cried throughout the 41 episodes. Peter Ho and Dong Jie makes an incredible couple, their chemistry is wonderful to watch. To not be moved by the star crossed lovers is almost impossible. They also humanized the part of Ma Wen Cai; he is much easier to sympathize with rather than being a down right hateful antagonist. The sets and costumes are also breathtaking. All and all, no drama lover should miss this of the timeless tale of love. |
