マリク大尉が副官を務める駆逐艦ケイン号に新しい艦長クィーグ中佐が着任した。彼のきびきびとした態度に当初は乗組員全員が好感を持つ。しかし、自らのミスを部下に押し付ける事件が発生。その後も艦長は異常な行動を繰り返し、次第に乗組員の信頼を失っていった。そんなとき、ケイン号は猛烈な台風に遭遇。恐怖で正気を失った艦長を制し、マリク大尉が艦を指揮して危機を脱する。だが、帰港したマリクら乗組員を待っていたのは、反逆罪の容疑での軍法会議だった・・・。
