Comrades, Almost a Love Story
March 12, 2002 Nice movie, poor releaseA good break away from other kinds of movies that are out there today. It's story is simple and real. The only bad part is Mei Ah...the company that made this DVD. The quality is poor, the subtitles come off, no extras, and most importantly I had problems playing my DVD. It skipped for like ten minutes towards the end which was really distracting and frustrating, I wasn't even sure if it would finish playing at all. February 16, 2002 Not that bad I guessI actually thought it was kind of boring. It took me three sittings to finish this movie. I had to stop it and do something else because it didn't keep my attention. The only reason I finished was because someone else was watching the third time. I was expecting it to be pop like her singles but, they're not. The only songs I like that I haven't already heard as singles are 6 and 11. Also my favorite song Machiawase wasn't on here!!!! I only laughed a bit but I'd watch it again. The best parts were the way the movie filmed with the color and slow motion, and the music... It felt like I was watching an episode of Cowboy Bebop or something, especially the final struggle scene for the dog. Also the crazy dog-eating scenes. Those were funny to see. January 2, 2002 ehh...This is a teenage horror flick identical to "I Know What You Did Last Summer"... Some mean kids torture a poor quiet guy and end up killing him on accident. It was all a joke recorded on video tape hoping to make some money off of it, but when they realize the he is dead they try to get rid of everything and pretend like it never happened. Well it didn't work and bad stuff starts happening to them one by one... Nothing original or that shocking but if you liked "I Know What You Did Last Summer" then I guess you might like this... I didn't expect anything from this movie, but it turned out to be very good. Really it is a beautiful film told in a simple, undemanding pace as only a Korean melodrama can. Min-Sik (Happy End) plays a rough gangster who in the beginning appears as such, but in reality he lives a pitiful life, unrespected in his gang and forced with a tough decision to make for his boss and supposed "friend". Cecilia does an excellent job and you really feel for both characters throughout the film. You wonder how it all could have been had things happened any differently. The black & white effects at the end of the movie with Cecilia's haunting voice and smile on video tape were so sad... I completely cried. A beautiful story with a thought-provoking message. I was suprised because all he watches is action, action, action, but he sat through the entire movie and enjoyed it. Ji-Hyun and Tae-Hyun act well together and bring the film to life. As he says in the film each day is like an adventure with her and you don't know how it will end. Yupgi girl brings plenty of laughs, gasps, and tears to the screen all in the same 137 minutes. The twist at the end gives you hope and I loved this film upon the 3rd viewing as much as I did on the 1st. My favorite parts were when she made him wear her heels and chase after her across the baseball field, and when they relived their high school days in uniform and got down at a dance club. Beautiful Life
December 8, 2001 Really good!When she first pulls her wheelchair out and gets out of her car in the beginning, you know this is going to be a triumphant, touching story. I'm not fluent in Japanese so there are some parts in the story I didn't follow, but majority I understood what they were saying and what was going on.
