YesAsia Editorial Description

The unstoppable trio of Stephen Chow, Ng Man Tat, and writer-director Lee Lik Chi ruled Hong Kong cinema in the 1990s with blockbuster comedies like Flirting Scholar, God of Cookery, and The King of Comedy, but their golden collaboration actually began in television. In 1989, they collaborated in two extremely popular TVB dramas, the nonsensical martial arts comedy The Final Combat and urban drama The Justice of Life, launching Stephen Chow into great fame. Fondly remembered as one of the best TVB dramas of all time, The Justice of Life features Stephen Chow and Ng Man Tat as a memorable father-son duo, with Chow displaying his unique brand of motormouth "mo lei tau" everyman humor that would later drive his films. Leading the cast is film and television star Alex Man, along with his future wife Tanny Tien and many actors who now form the backbone of Hong Kong cinema, including Anthony Wong, Teresa Mo, Hui Siu Hung, and Wong Yat Fei. Truly one of the classics of Hong Kong television, The Justice of Life draws both laughter and tears with its down-to-earth humor and moving depiction of family, love, and brotherhood.

After the death of his fiancee (Pauline Yeung), triad legend Ming Tin (Alex Man) washes his hands of the underworld, retreating to a quiet life running a small mahjong parlor. He originally disavowed himself of romance as well, but two very different women (Tanny Tien and Teresa Mo) wander into his life. Ming Tin lives with his mother (Lee Heung Kam), uncle (Ng Man Tat), and cousin Gam Sui (Stephen Chow). Ming Tin and Gam Sui are as close as brothers, but Gam Sui's father has a grudge against Ming Tin, leading to many barbs and bickers in this odd family. When Gam Sui and his father unwittingly stumble onto the wrong sides of the track, it's up to Ming Tin to pull them back with his old connections.

Stephen Chow's career turning pont Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
My first impression of Stephen Chow was in this series and was best remembered for his unique brand of humour. This was the definitive series that has him captured the audience and producer attention The rest is history...It's also one of the best HK-TVB series that I remembered in my teens...Stephen has gone a long long way since his early foray into TV, If I am not mistaken, he saw him as an extra actor (guard, i think) in one of the re-runs of the original Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre TVB series..

Great series... bad CD. Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
This is one of my all time favorite series. IMHO, it's Stephan's best performance (some will argue that he wasn't really acting, but just being himself).

This VCD set is horrible! The image is very grainy. You have to select one channel (left for Cantonese & right for Mandarin) for your listening pleasure. So forget about Stereo sound! Maybe that is a "feature" of VCD, but I don't think the grainy image is a specialty of VCD. I have seen other VCDs before that produce much better images than this sucker.

I didn't think that was worth it. I am hoping they (another distributor) will make a DVD version of this great series with a sharper image and true stereo sound, but I wouldn't hold my breath...

STEPHEN SO FUNNY. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I love Stephen Chow. I watched him when I was little and have grown to love him today. He's my best comedy star. Although he's getting old now. not what he was when he was still young. =( Check out his other movies. I love him, he's the best. Funniest in the world. He's like the Jim Carey of HK. <3 dachinkgurlie
