YesAsia Editorial Description

In hitomi's newest single, you will find her smash hits including "Flow," "Plastic Time Machine" and "Blade Runner". The feature song "Flow" will be the theme song for TBS Network's "Survivor." This new single is definitely hitomi's style, with a powerful rock feeling to it. Also "Blade Runner," is the 'Kao's Aube' commercial track while "Plastic Time Machine" is featured as the song of "Mitsubishi, mover D504i."

This maxi single is surely hitomi's ultimate single release! Make sure to look out for her upcoming album "SELF PORTRAIT"!

More on FLOW Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Hitomi, one of the fashion Icons of Japanese girls, released her 25th single, FLOW/BLADE RUNNER on August 21st, 2002. There are all together 3 tracks on this CD single. Other than the 2 Side-A songs, there is another track called PLASTIC TIME MACHINE (Strange Name huh?). It has been a while since Hitomi released her last single, UNDERSTANDING, on Valentine’s Day earlier this year. Hence, I waited for this single with much anticipation and expectation. Fortunately, Hitomi did not disappoint me with the song FLOW. I have not heard such a beautiful ballad from Hitomi for a very long time since her KIMI NI KISS at the end of year 2000. Co-Incidentally, both singles hit No.9 on the Oricon Pop Chart during their first week of release. There were 22,860 copies of FLOW sold within a week. The bad news is that it looks like FLOW does not have strong staying power as it’s moving down quickly on the chart. It probably would not sell more than the 100,000 copies mark. The Second track from this single is BLADE RUNNER, which is the new AUBE new CF song. It is a rather plain track I must say, it took me a few times listening to it before I could remember the melody. The same actually goes to the third track, PLASTIC TIME MACHINE, which I think is a bit too noisy. Although this is a 3 A-Side Single, only the first track is worth listening to. Well, with a beautiful ballad like FLOW, it is already worth the money buying the entire single. Who cares if track 2 and 3 are good…smile.

Hitomi, being one of my early J-Pop favourites, has changed her style of music since she left her ex-producer, Tetsuya Komuro. She has become more rock then ever. Even though I may prefer her previous style to a certain extend, her new taste of music has continued to amaze us. FLOW is a very good example of soft rock ballad that not many female Japanese artists could perform. Not forgetting to mention Hitomi does have this unique voice that gives a rather rock and wild mood. She has also become one of the very few Japanese singers who managed to re-invent themselves and came back with success. Hitomi was virtually on the edge of disappearing at one point as her sales of singles and albums were going down dramatically. Surprisingly, she came back in May 2000, after a 9-month break, with the totally different hit song LOVE2000 and since then, she has never been more successful. It was probably the second peak in her career. One point to note is that, Hitomi, although never perform very well on the single charts, does have three NO.1 albums (Huma-Rhythm, h, and By Myself), three NO.2 albums (Love Life, Themal Plastic and De Ja Vue) and a NO.3 Album (Go To The Top ?her Debut album) under her belt. Out of all her albums, personally, I think THERMAL PLASTIC is the best of all, even though it was the worst selling of all ?only 326,940 copies sold. Her best selling album to-date is her 2nd album, BY MYSELF, which sold more 803,000 copies. As for best selling single, it is actually one of her very early hits, CANDY GIRL, with about 400,000 copies sold. LOVE 2000 is slightly behind CANDY girl in terms of sales but it has a much higher chart position at NO.5 as compared to CANDY GIRL’s NO.15. What made LOVE2000 stand out among the singles was that it had an amazingly strong staying power on the chart for a single - a total of 26 weeks!!! Most Hitomi’s singles disappeared from the chart after 8 weeks.

Cool Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Flow was boring but I like Blade Runner. That song is energetic but not to the extent of say "Samurai Drive". It's too bad these tracks aren't on her upcoming best album, but it just means I'll have to buy her next album whenever it comes out. ^__^
