Professional Review of "Alan & Hacken (CD)"

A Celebrated Return: Alan & Hacken (CD) ~ HacKen Lee, Alan Tam

No one would disagree if "Alan & Hacken" is awarded the most popular male singing group in 2003. All kinds of productions by them such as the two "Alan & Hacken Concerts" and the various CD, VCD, DVD products released afterwards, were simply selling greater than ever.

Here they come again in 2004! The veteran duo prepare for their concerts during the coming Chinese New Year holiday. "Alan & Hacken (CD)", with 5 brand new tunes and 7 rendition of other singers' favourites, has just been released to act as a prelude for their first concert in 2004!

It is of no doubt that HacKen Lee and Alan Tam are two of the most renowned singers who pose some of the best singing skills in Hong Kong. But one has no other way but to admit that the chemistry in the "Hacken & Alan" formula is not working anymore; their performance is still good, but certainly not as electrifying as last year's. As for the 7 rendition, they are very special, but one cannot really compare them with the originals as they are simply different.

The leading track "LA LA Song" (Track#1), which is produced Mark LEI SongDe, is more rhythmic and poppy than last year's "Hacken & Alan" and is an appropriate theme song for the concert this year. "Old Buddies" (Track#2) chants praise of friendships and its chorus is especially splendid.

"Suffering Consequences Of One's Own Action" (Track#4), written and composed by Andy Lau, is the theme song of the blockbuster movie "Infernal Affairs III". It is said that Andy Lau was supposed to sing this theme song. Although both its music and lyrics are brilliant and is suitable for Hacken to sing, it somehow does not fit one another. It is not as harmonious as the two previous theme song "High Sky" and "Infernal Affairs" with "Infernal Affairs II&I".

Among the seven rendition of other singers' favourites, "Border Of Love & Pain" (Track#8)" and "Doubt No More" (Track#10) by Alan Tam, and "Getting Used to Heartbreak" (Track#7) and "Li Xiang Lan" (Track#11) by Hacken Lee are the present reviewer's favourites. Unfortunately, Hacken and Alan seem not able to get the essence of "If" (Track#6) and "You Are Always There" (Track#12). So, the present reviewer prefers the originals than their rendition.

Recommendations: "LA LA Song" (Track#1), "Old Buddies" (Track#2), "Border Of Love & Pain" (Track#8), "Getting Used to Heartbreak" (Track#7)

Compare to this album, i guess all those boy bands' cd like Boyz, Shine, EO2 are nothing but just some junk music which will be stacked up in the cd racks.

Bravo! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Just bought this album and have not stopped listening to it the whole day today.

Song #5 is really good. I especially Hacken's Song #11. It's sooo moving & emotional! I can picture him on stage singing this song...oh...

I love Hacken's voice on Alan's music.

On the whole, this is a very good album.

Good =) Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The CD is good. Both Alan and Hacken display their younger side as they sing some very teen pop sounding songs. At first i thought it did not suit them to be singing songs like that, but as i heard the songs over again, i liked the songs more and more. I realize that they really can sing any type of song, even if the rythym is very teen pop, they still do a great job. The effect is cute^^

The best friendships album Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Most of the songs are singing about "friendships" or buddy-hood"..one weakness is that there are too many old mandarin are being translated into cantonese in this album.

Recommended : LA LA SONG (Enegetic & Cute) - sounds like 25!
