Insisting on a different political belief, Kim Sung-myen (Kim Jung-ki) had spent 45 years in jail as a political prisoner.

Accused of endangering national security, Kim Sung-myen was sent to jail in 1951 in Korea and was maltreated in prison because his politcal belief was different from that of the government. He met Lee Young Eun in prison and was influenced by Lee's strong will. One day in 1971, owing to the government's strong suppression policy on political prisoners at that time, Oh Tae-sik came to the prison and tried to ideologize political prisoners like Kim and Lee with ruthless brutalities and threats.
