"The Greatest Expectation" is one of the quirkiest romantic comedies you'll ever see. Mi Yung (Kim Sun Ah) deludes herself that she is an actress, chasing casting calls for parts she'll never get. In fact, she works for her mother's video shop, tasked with collecting late fees from people slow to return their videos. One of those deadbeat video renters is Chang Shik (Lim Chang Jung), a layabout unemployed college grad who sponges off his brother and his tart-tongued sister-in-law.

The first half of the film establishes just how extremely obnoxious are all of these characters, as they engage in long-running, screaming arguments with each other. The story begins to shift when Mi Yung and Chang Shik witness a wealthy old man being killed when he is run down by a gangster's car. The gangster wants to eliminate all witnesses to the traffic accident, putting the endlessly spatting Mi Yung and Chang Shik on the run together and leading to the inevitable romance.

While the obnoxious behaviour and screaming arguments grow tiresome, the filmmakers come up with ingenious and hilarious ways to humiliate their characters and generate laughs. Kim Sun Ah, in particular, mines lowbrow comic gold through one humiliation after another. Her knack for physical comedy is the foundation upon which this amusing film is built. "The Greatest Expectation" delivers loud, goofy fun.

didn't expect much, but I was rewarded handsomely.
It was a very funny film.... If you are a non-Korean speaker, but you may not enjoy some scenes as much as I have.
