Professional Review of "Deep In The Music"

April 1, 2004

Greater Development: "Deep In The Music" ~ Deep Ng

Labelled the "Successor of Eason Chan" last year when he was a rookie like the girl group 2R in the local music industry, Deep Ng has recently released his second EP named "Deep In The Music". There are 5 brand new Cantonese songs and 2 music videos.

One will find the quality of this EP much higher when compared to Deep's last debut EP named "Ng Ho Hong". The impressive work done by the several song writers and producers this time gives Deep room to develop as a better singer. Deep, the winner of last year's TVB singing contest, has also started developing his own style and been improving.

As for the songs, meaningful but not homily lyrics, dulcet music and fairy rhythms makes "King Of The Kids" (Track#4) a good but hard-to-master principal track which Deep manages so well.

"Chess Master" (Track#5) is powered by the same group of song writers and lyricists which created Deep's first-ever leading track "The First Has Advantages To Instil Notions" in the last album. Drawing an analogy between chess and love relationships is creative, bright and clear, Deep has performed well too. As for "Let Go Of Yourself" (Track#8), a ballad created by Chen Hui Yang, it is not outstanding but still a-kind-of appealing.

Written by Zhou Chu Chen, the second leading song "Wash Cut Dry" (Track#6) is a tailor-made, mid-adagio ballad for Deep to sing. For a moment, the present reviewer almost thought "What's The Time Over There" (Track#7) was the one from Daniel Chan. However, it turns out that it only carries an identical title and is a completely different song.

Recommendations: "King Of The Kids" (Track#4), "Chess Master" (Track#5) and "Wash Cut Dry" (Track#6)

don't give up Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The album is really great, and the singer shows maturity beyond his age. Deep's knows how to use his voice, and he sings like he is talking to you. Its heartbreaking to see an artist with so much talent and potential to fall like that. He must be going through hell right now. It is beyond imagination and he does not deserve that. Hope Deep will bounce back from the adversity he is facing. After all, its wrong to take drugs, but is that really such a eternal sin that cannot be forgiven? For goodness sake he is only 21. Deep, pick yourself up and carry on with your good work.

Impressed Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I must say I'm impressed by the songs on this album, especially the last two tracks. He can be a successor to Eason too, as I think his song "What time is it on your side?" would be one that Eason would love to call his own. He sounds a bit like Leo Ku on some tracks, and a bit like Edmond Leung on others. I hope his next CD will be an LP though.
