YesAsia Editorial Description
Army officer Kang (Jang Dong Gun) is stationed in Korea's eastern water regions. All seems to be quiet and peaceful here, but a notice warns that whoever comes to this place after seven o'clock at night will be regarded as a spy and executed on the spot. One night, Kang opens fire on a suspected spy, who turns out to be a local who sneaked in with his girlfriend. As the army believes that Kang's shooting of the man is in accordance with the rules, they allow him special leave to revitalize his spirits. However, Kang can't get over the terrible incident. After his leave period is over, he returns to his post, but is still unable to shake off his past experiences. His mental shape gets worse and worse and in the end he gets dismissed from duty and is sent back to Seoul. Yet Kang still believes that he is a member of the coast guard and heads out to visit his old post one more time.

its a diiferent jang
|
I have seen him in various action films, but this one is quite different from his other movies. He is disturbed in this movie because he killed someone but accident. And because of this he was not able to handle it and ended up psychotic. Even his acting for me is quite convincing. I recommend this movies to Jang dong Gun fans. |

very touching if you have a kind heart
|
The story is very touching, Jang Dong Gun acted very well and the song he sang at the end of the movie is so sad. I watched it many times in Korean version and this version too. |

They say that every good actor/actress makes one bad movie for every good movie they star in. This is the bad one Jang Dong Gun has for his good one in "Friend". Yes, the director is known for making strange and controversial films. "Coast Guard" portrays Jang as a deranged individual after a traumatic experience. Jang does a good job however the character he portrays is not a likable one. In the end, you are left with an unsatisfied experience with nothing but feeling bad and sorry for a lot of the characters in the film. |

Considering this has Jang Dong Gun (Friend, 2009: Lost Memories), I expected a lot from this film. To my dismay, I was disappointed. I know that Koreans can get melodramatic and overzealous in their emotions, but this one takes the cake. I couldn't get over how much pity I had for the characters. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, someone else just had to have it worse off than the last. |

Unfortunately I did buy this movie, so im stuck with it. I do have to say, the actors/actress were very convicing at their roles. Very good acting. BUT I dont know why they would agree to make this movie in the first place. The storyline, plot, which ever one you would like to say made the movie awful. If my review was base on acting, I would give it kudos other wise, no. I dont think its a good movie at all. |
