YesAsia Editorial Description

A slacker gets his chance in the winning new MBC K-Drama Super Rookie! Eric Mun of pop group Shinhwa stars as Kang Ho, an average guy who got a college degree in physical education - but took twice as long to get it because he was too busy fooling around! Kang Ho sends up resumes to many companies, but nobody gives him a shot because he has no experience and no apparent prospects. Even his parents think he's just a freeloader. But one day, Kang Ho decides to apply to the same large company as his successful friend Bong Sam (Oh Ji Ho), and thanks to a computer error, he's given a job! But is the company ready for this Super Rookie?

Co-starring Han Ga In and Lee So Yeon, Super Rookie is a hip new drama about growing up while never giving up, and serves as a telling but comic portrait of today's Korean youth. This 8 DVD set contains all 16 episodes of the series with English subtitles, plus a bonus disc. As an added treat, the Original Soundtrack CD is included too!

Every dog has his day.
Finally! Here comes a Korean drama that gives voice to the little people, the underperforming mediocre everyman - and strangely enough, that everyman is represented by heartthrob pop star Eric Mun. Even more strange, he fits the role. Though Eric does have an occasionally goofy image, the handsome, US-raised rapper of mega pop group Shinhwa is pretty much at the opposite end of the Joe Schmoe spectrum, but he gives a completely hilarious, ego-eschewing performance in Super Rookie. Maybe he needed something light after the rather intense Phoenix.

Eric stars as Kang Ho, a sloppy, thick-headed, and unemployed P.E. grad with a seriously bad mop of hair. Thanks to a serendipitous computer error, he lands a coveted job at a top corporation, becoming colleagues with mousy-cute administrative assistant Mi Ok (Han Ga In), spoiled rich girl Hyun Ah (Lee So Yeon), and his old classmate, the sharp and ambitious Bong Sam (Oh Ji Ho) who can't stand Kang Ho's incompetence. With his superiors plotting to get rid of him and a romantic triangle brewing away, Kang Ho conquers all with his gung ho spirit and some good old dumb luck!

Lampooning real issues with silly energy, Super Rookie situates much of its drama and comedy in the workplace, with office romance, whispers and rumors, business rivalries, and flying elbows galore. Rather than the exaggerated, high-level chaebol competition of the typical Korean melodrama, what we see here are the petty fights that are all too familiar. Throwing the silly and unskilled, but pure-hearted Kang Ho into the mix becomes a foil to show how silly and immature everyone is under their carefully ironed suits. The office encounters and conflicts play out in sitcom manner, but there are keen observations about today's working generation, corporate culture, and social values in there.

Characters, even supporting ones, resist caricature which is a great achievement for a comedy. This is one of the few dramas where I could really sense not only how the viewers see the characters, but how the characters see each other. Eric's Kang Ho may be the hero of the story, but Oh Ji Ho's Bong Sam is probably the more identifiable and understandable figure, the one who wants to play the game right and come out on top. In that search for success, certain things and people may be compromised. It doesn't make you a bad person, just human, but try explaining that to the person left behind, or even to yourself in the middle of the night. There's also Han Ga In's Mi Ok, the quiet, meek girl with a stubborn temper that periodically empowers her to do unpredictable things, and Hyun Ah, the rich girl who has everything but can't seem to win. Because the people and situations are recognizable the punchlines are all the funnier, the story all the more entertaining.

What makes Super Rookie enjoyable is the laughter, and that laughter comes from empathy.

Hysterical! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
If you've ever worked in a business office, you will love this series. It's one of the funniest I've ever seen. I purchased this several years ago and have watched it twice since the original viewing on television. It's just as funny every time. Ho's family and office personnel are extremely humorous and I have a feeling that they had a lot of fun just making this production. Some of the characters are so off the wall and wacky! We all need a good laugh once in a while and this series does it. And believe it or not, I found that some of the peoples in Ho's office were similar to people I've worked with in the past!:-)
Enjoy!

Motivating Humor Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
This is not a heavy drama. It is light fare, albiet honest and well crafted, as fate lands a young man in the corporate world, and his life changes on a dime as he persues his luck and untaps his hidden potential as a succesful buisinessman. Comical antics do not hide the sincerity of the underlying message that roots for the underdog and chants 'never give up' with heart, evoking a motivational story of overcoming the odds that is pleasant and sincere. Recommended.

Slacker takes a high-pressure job Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"Super Rookie" begins unevenly, builds momentum, then becomes riveting for several episodes as it builds to a gripping climax ... only to evaporate into unreality in the last two or three episodes. Eric Mun makes a convincingly dim bulb as the young layabout who stumbles into a coveted job with mighty LK Corporation. Oh Ji Ho is a bit heavy-handed as Mun's great, thoroughly unprincipled rival at LK. However, the fault may lie not with handsome Mr. Oh, but instead with the series' director, who specializes in excruciatingly long reaction shots. Wide-eyed Han Ga In provides very appealing support as the distaff element in the story's mandatory love triangle.

"Super Rookie" provides a fine supporting cast -- the pair that plays Mun's parents is particularly good -- and plenty of laughs to go along with its convincing romantic melodrama, surprising physical action, and exciting corporate intrigue. If only they hadn't squandered the ending...

Worth your $25 Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
All i can say is that I'm SOOOOO happy I bought this drama, and for the price $25 you can't beat it. I am only on episode 10, but I had the urge to writie a good review because I like it so much. I have been laughing through out this series, which is new for me. Usually these dramas have me crying. Eric Mun is fantastic for being a singer. Usually singers can not act, but he was perfect for the role. I'm dying to finnish this series up, but I was thrilled at how good this drama is going. I'd say my top 3 drama this makes it on the list
