Self Titled Masterpiece

This album is one of those which has a very special place in my heart. Hitomi's releases have always been spectacular and quite polished, but this album differs greatly from her previous albums. As a first, all the songs have a superb quality and several were recorded with a live orchestra. Hitomi's vocal talents were always excellent in themselves and classical music is definitely an excellent match to such vocals. The result was an utterly amazing dramatic album. On the other hand, the concepts and ideas adopted for each song, made the whole package even more unique.I truly cannot pinpoint a song which stands out as bland or unoriginal. Even the lyrics are poetic, poignant and elegant. Within this album you'll find yourself traveling through space and time. Include the whole fantasy element and you have the perfect atmosphere for this album. Without overdoing it, emotion and intricate compositions are balanced to create a beautiful masterpiece. This album is definitely something that should be included in the "Must-Buy" list of anyone who appreciates excellent vocals and classical-pop hybrids. This album delivers what is promised and more and deserves the spot of a self titled album. |

perfect through and through
perfect through and through
| I was only recently introduced to Hitomi Shimatani, and when I received this CD and actually had the chance to listen to it I was completely amazed. Her voice is breathtaking, and the use of even a real orchestra on many of the tracks makes it even more perfect. I'm still listening to it day after day. It has to make you wonder why an avex artist like this gets jipped while other singers like Ayumi Hamasaki(fan of her too) get all the fame, glory and endless supply of cash. I think a favorite on this CD would definitely be Falco. Anyways, I urge everyone to buy this album. |

Lots of vocal expression
Lots of vocal expression
| Hitomi's music is such a unique blend of dance and orchestral composition that I really can't think of anything to compare it to off the top of my head. Her music on this album, much like what can be found on Crossover, is extremely dramatic in its presentation. I imagine that music like hers could be a movie producer's dream as its emotion is so clearly laid out in her vocals and the supporting composition. Two-Mix, of course, is one group known for incorporating classical influences and sometimes even using classical instruments in their compositions, but the approach in Hitomi's music is much different. It's more straightforward, and I belive it has a stronger impact. For example, the track Mermai has a chorus using the melody of a famous classical composition, though I'm not well versed enough in the area to identify it. I tended to like the faster, more dance-oriented tracjs simply because they're more interesting to me when sung by Hitomi. Her slower, balld-astyle songs are actually pretty, and she has a decently melodious voice, but she doesn't keep my attention as succesfully on these songs. To me, it seems like she tones herself down for her slower songs, but I would rather see her approach these with all the emoitonal fervor that she brings to the dance-oriented tracks. Favorites on this album were Sara Souju, Garnet Moon (though I liked the Crossover Version better), Mona Lisa, Mermaid, and Voice. |

Amazing album!
Amazing album!
| Hitomi Shimatani's latest effort is an incredible one. She manages to blend classical symphonic melodies with techno beats and the result is astounding! At first I was skeptical, but upon hearing amazing tracks like "Taiyoushin (track 10)," "Falco," "Mermaid," and "Viola." I fell in love with the CD! There is enough variation with acoustic songs, slow ballads, and several upbeat tracks. The CD is well worth the sale price. I first bought the CD several months ago and I still love the songs as much as I did the first time I heard them. A must for any fan of J-pop or Hitomi Shimatani! |

GREAT!
GREAT!

When I received this album I honestly listened to almost nothing else for about 2 months! I still listen to this CD a lot. All of the songs on this album are excellent! There were a few that stood out though: all of the great songs from her singles: Falco, Mermaid, Garnet Moon, and Mahiru no Tsuki. Frame (track 12) was a memorable song, actually writen by Hitomi Shimatani herself. My favourite song from the whole album from a single or not was Taiyoushin (track 10), I could listen to that song all day long and not be bored. The DVD however was disappointing. It was nearly an hour long and half of the time you were just watching Shimatani sit there in a chair in front of a white background and she keeps brushing her hair out of her face, it was distracting. It would have been much better if there had been PVs instead. |
