<인정 사정 볼 것 없다> 이명세 감독의 스타일이 다른 '대결편'
1999년 <인정사정 볼 것 없다> 이후 6년만에 메가폰을 잡은 이명세 감독. 그의 신작<형사 Duelist>는 이명세 감독의 7번째 혹은 첫 번째 작품으로 그간 이명세가 세상에 내놓은 작품들의 총집합이기도 하고 아주 새로운 작품이기도 하다. 자신을 20세기 명감독이 아닌 21세기 신인감독이라 칭하는 이명세 감독은 전작 <인정사정 볼 것 없다>가 '추적'의 이야기였다면 <형사 Duelist>는 '대결편'이라고 말한다.
영화제목에서 한글과 나란히 표기되어 있는 낯선 단어 Duelist란, 대결 혹은 대결자를 칭한다. <형사 Duelist>가 이명세 감독의 전작의 연장선에 있다고 볼 수 있는 이유가 바로 이것이다. 영화 속에서 각각의 확실한 컨셉을 지니고 수 차례 벌어지는 대결은 드라마를 이어가는 중요한 언어이다. 숙명적인 대결 속에서 운명적인 사랑이 싹트고 감정의 변화에 따라 대결의 모습은 다르게 표현된다. 감정이 시작되는 대결, 감정이 복받쳐 오르는 원망의 대결, 심판과도 같은 긴장의 대결 등, 영화 <형사 Duelist>는 대결로 사랑을 이야기한다.

One of the best OST of the year. Each musical piece (yes, quite of the tracks are instrumental) represents respective character or scene of the movie very well. The duet between 2 main characters, which is also sung as 2 separate songs, is simply beautiful. |
