First broadcast in 1995, Anno Hideaki's Neon Genesis Evangelion revolutionized Japanese animation. Considered by many to be the definitive anime work, the sci-fi post-apocalyptic mecha series became an instant classic. To the elation of fans worldwide, Evangelion is now returning with a brand new chapter - Rebuild of Evangelion.

Neon Genesis Evangelion revolves around a group of teenagers who operate biomechanical mecha called Evangelions, the only weapons capable of fighting the Angels, mysterious giant robots attacking Tokyo-3. Evangelion's complicated storyline incorporates psychological aspects and Biblical references, attracting many people who are not typically anime fans. The series was so popular it became a cultural phenomenon.

Because of production issues, the last two episodes of the television series focused on the psychological states and inner worlds of the characters. The open ending left many questions unanswered and fans unsatisfied. In 1997, Anno released The End of Evangelion, a follow-up film that presented a controversial alternate ending to the series and introduced even more unanswered questions.

Eleven years later, the original GAINAX crew is returning with the highly anticipated Neon Genesis Evangelion: Rebuild of Evangelion. The new Evangelion will be divided into four parts. The first three sections will be created from the first 24 episodes of the original series, with new backgrounds and scenes added in, while the fourth section will be a brand new production. Rebuild of Evangelion will be aired in the summer of 2007.
