Memory of The Restless OST

After the success of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000, wuxia has become one of the hottest genres in the international market. Moved by new trends and improved production values, Chungmuro has also recently rediscovered this lost art with works such as Shadowless Sword and Musa: The Warrior. The latest wuxia film to emerge from Korea is The Restless, which brings back many of the people who made Musa so special, including music director Sagisu Shiro, now director Jo Dong Oh, and of course lead Jung Woo Sung. Memory also marks the official film debut of small-screen starlet Kim Tae Hee of Stairway to Heaven. Focusing on the love story of a spirit in limbo between death and the next world and a warrior who can't forget his dead lover, The Restless promises to be one of the most interesting films of the year.

Reflecting its international influences (shot in China, Japanese music and costume director), Memory of The Restless features three language versions of the two main songs, with Wheesung and Maybee singing the Korean versions. The songs were previously included on digital singles released by the two singers on November 11 and 26, 2006, to promote the film. "The Crescent Moon", written by famous lyricist Park Geun Tae and composed by Sagisu Shiro, is Wheesung's comeback single after switching record companies six months ago. The song Memory of The Restless features rising star Maybee along with a 64-piece orchestra in a Maybee-style ballad. The song was produced by Kim Geon Woo and fits perfectly with the scale of the film.

2006년 11월 16일, 23일 May Bee와 휘성이 중천의 기억 디지털 싱글 앨범으로 "기억이 마르면"과 "손톱달"을 들고 나왔다. 두 싱글 앨범은 영화 "중천"에서 소화(김태희)의 테마송인 May Bee의 "기억이 마르면"과 이곽(정우성)의 테마송인 휘성의 "손톱달"로 음원이 나오자 마자 각종 온라인 차트에서 상위에 랭크 되며 좋은 성적을 거두고 있다.

지난 5월 소속사를 옮긴 휘성이 이적 약 6개월 만에 들고나온 첫 결과물이 되는 "손톱달"은 이적 후 첫 공식적인 음악 활동이어서 많은 팬들의 관심을 받고 있다.‘손톱달’은 한국 최고의 작곡가로 불리는 '박근태'. 일본 최고의 편곡 테크니션 '사기스 시로'. 그 둘이 의기투합해 작곡과 편곡의 기능을 맡았고 가수 '휘성'은 자신의 목소리를 던져 오리엔탈 발라드의 마침표를 찍어냈다. 그동안 서양 음악을 기반으로 하여 가장 한국적인 맥박을 짚어냈다는 평가를 받아왔던 '휘성'이 처음으로 자기 보컬의 대륙을 뛰어넘어 가장 동양적인 색깔의 음색을 들려준다.

'박근태'와 '사기스 시로'가 한국과 일본, 영국을 인터넷으로 넘나들며 공동 작업한 사운드 소스는 지금까지 발표된 가요 중에 가장 섬세하게 짜여져 있다는 평가를 받았다. 또한 ‘중천’의 영상 스케일에 맞게 무한의 공간감으로 연출된 사운드 믹스는 그동안 우리 가요에서 들어왔던 목욕탕 사이즈의 답답함을 완전히 깨버렸다는 찬사를 자아냈다. 처음엔 단순히 영화의 테마곡으로 시작되었던 작업이 끝에 가서는 모든 스탭들로 하여금 오리엔탈 발라드의 끝을 보여주자는 결의로 마무리되었고 그 결과 지금의 '손톱달'이 만들어 졌다.
