Korean Film Director Biography - Lee Chang Dong (English Text)

Every year the Korean Film Council selects three to six acclaimed local directors and releases biographies of them as a part of their "Korean Film Director Series". This year the focus falls on Lee Chang Dong in this 114-page English-language biography written by Korean film critic Kim Young Jin.

Renowned director Lee Chang Dong returned to filmmaking in 2007 with Secret Sunshine, his first directorial work since his stint as Minister of Culture and Tourism from 2003 to 2004. Though Secret Sunshine is only his fourth film, few directors have accomplished as much as Lee has with his short filmography. Lee has found worldwide acclaim for his candid exploration of history and humanity in Green Fish, Oasis, Peppermint Candy, and now Secret Sunshine.
