YesAsia Editorial Description

Over the last decade, hotshot costume drama producer Zhang Jizhong has brought many of Jin Yong's classic martial arts novels to the small screen, including the Huang Xiaoming-starring Royal Tramp and Return of the Condor Heroes and the Li Yapeng-starring Legend of the Condor Heroes and The Smiling, Proud Wanderer. In 2009 he offers a hit new adaptation of Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre (a.k.a. Yi Tian Tu Long Ji). Deng Chao (Assembly) stars as the hero of the story Zhang Wuji, a pure-hearted swordsman who gets inexorably pulled into the disputes of the previous generation. He also caught between two women - Ady An (as Zhau Min) and Liu Jing (as Zhou Zhiruo) - who straddle the lines of good and evil.

Ten years ago, a heroic couple was kidnapped to a remote island to look for the Dragon Sabre. Returning to the mainland with their son Wuji, they become the target of all the swordsmen who want to know the whereabouts of the legendary weapon and its notorious owner. The couple commits suicide to uphold their honor, leaving Wuji an orphan to adventure in the martial arts world alone...

Exceptional Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
The series is primarily based on the third edition of Loius Cha's novel. Deng Chao did a fine job as Zhang Wuji, , Ady Ann as Xhao Min, and Liu Jing as Zhou Zhirou. Nice touch is that Cecilia Liu (劉詩詩), who recently played Mu Nianci on "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" (2008), plays her character's descendant, the Yellow Dressed Maiden, in this series, which indirectly connecting this series with "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" (2008), despite this is supposedly the final part of Zhang Jizhong's "Condor Trilogy," preceded by "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" (2003) and "The Return of the Condor Heroes" (2006). It is understandable since Jiang Qinqin, who played Mu Nianci on "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" (2003) is now not as young as she was and Liu is still a beautiful young woman and current star power overlapses Jiang's.

Is not what aspect Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
I agreed with the most reviews. The quality are bad. They use china version and just add the english
sub. The worse thing is on wide screen TV the textures are blurry. Must be becos they have 8
episodes in each disc.

Horrible - Very Disappointed Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
Just as other China re-make version of Jin Yong epics movies, this is also horrible. Poor choice of actors and actresses. Poor filming technique (considering we are in 2010). If you want to watch the best version of this movie, I recommend the TVB 1986 version with Tony Leung. If you watch that one, you will fall asleep watching this one.

HSDS 2009 Taiseng Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I am disappointed with the quality of the DVD itself not so much about the movie. The English subtitle is so badly written and it should be checked for quality control prior to release into production.

Consumers pay $70 plus for the set and we should be able to fast forward those movies previews. Then in between of episode Taiseng inserted Direct TV commercial. This is not FREE TV and we paid for the DVD, we shouldn't be forced to watch the darn commercial !!!!

Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre (2009) Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
Have been looking forward to this new version.
Good points - breathtaking scenery. Bad points - poor choice of actress, especially ZouZhiRou; horrible CG and annoying sound effects (considering this is 2009!); certain cut scenes do not match (ie. the oldman stranded outside the cave with nothing to eat or drink for 5 years can still survive! Young wuji on mountain scenes do not match; raft scene filmed on beach!); inconsistent script, modifications to original story.

The last 2003 version was way much better than this. If you are a true JinYong or drama fans, you will be very disappointed in this version. Although still barely entertaining, it is commendable for the efforts. Overall, the series was poorly executed (directing and casting). What a waste.
