Toplining Hong Kong movie star Ray Lui, Mainland director Bao Fuming's military thriller 1949 Macau both serves as a tribute to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the "New China", as well as a patriotic release for the 10th anniversary of Macau's return to Chinese rule. The film is set in the turbulent times in the titular year, when the defeated Nationalists were retreating to Taiwan. Among the outgoing fleet, the Lianrong warship makes a brief stop in Macau on its way out, and a stirring battle is fought out between the secret agents on opposite sides. At the critical moment, the ship's captain Guan Jitang (Ray Lui) proves decisive as he leads his men to rise in rebellion...
