A Must Get for L'Arc~en~Ciel Fans!
| This is an absolutely wonderful concert! I just watched it last night and keep my review really short because the previous review has given a best review with vivid descriptions. My favorite part of the concert is the second half starting with The Silver Shining which is one of my favorite rock ballads. But my favorite is the one that follows, 花葬 in which Hyde sings his best with his masculine, attractive and mesmerizing vocals. The beats and melody are just wonderful even though Hyde has a few notes that are slightly off. Then there is Pieces and a few other ones that are my favorites. Hyde has a stage presence that reminds me of Mick Jaeger(?) of The Rolling Stones. Also, L'Arc~en~Ciel members have so much charisma and music skills that they absolutely deserve love from music fans! Don't miss this concert! |

"1999 Grand Cross Conclusion" just blows you away with 20 hit songs, mostly from the albums they've released in July ("ark" and "ray"). The audience number was huge as the camera scans through the outdoor concert. From "trick" to the final song "Pieces", all the members radiate energy and excitement on the stage, directly from your screen! The opening looks modern, a little dizzy, but the sound of "larva" just pumps you up for their big entrance. As fans scream when they appear on stage, you see yukihiro not at the drums, but at the front playing a guitar as well. An awesome site to see before the drummer heads back behind his drum set. "Honey" was explosive as fans waved in unison towards the stage and a huge blow-up of a lady is seen on the side of the stage. hyde has his sunglasses, tetsu with his huge goggles and neon green platforms, ken is sparkly with his cowboy outfit, while yukihiro is slick with his headband. "Shi no Hai" and "It's the End" were less common songs, while fans danced to "Sell My Soul" as Hyde serenaded with the line "I always see you in my dreams" with tetsu as backup vocal. "Ibara no Namida", "fate", and "Niji" were fan favourites, and in the DVD version, there is a special solo screening to show their brilliance. Hyde starts to move around the stage in "snow drop" as clips from previous performances are added in as well. Tetsu also throws a pick at the camera, with his trademark smile. =) One of the best performances (in my opinion) is "the silver shining". The cameras really capture the ambiance of the concert at the time as the sun has already set and the moon is out. Hyde sang his lines with so much feeling and mood, the audience is willing to believe it as he sang "There is nothing I want, than stay with you". "Kasou" and "shinshoku ~lose control" picked up the pace after "the silver shining" as fans screamed again when the introduction was heard. Hyde comes out with a new hat (and I believe a new shirt as well) in "Caress of Venus" while dancers appears to give the mood of the video "Heaven's Drive". Ken got up with the dancers while hyde and tetsu jammed at the front. The members (except yukihiro) was all over the stage in "Dive to Blue" and the blimp in the sky was shown. Closeup of hyde on the screen made fans eager to want more of them! "Shout at the Devil" (this also has a solo screening of tetsu) was totally insane. With devil wings and a microphone stand in his hand, hyde is totally absorbed in the song as cameras show the insane speed of tetsu's fingers on his bass. A ball of fire flares at the top of the stage. Throwing down his main microphone stand, hyde leaves the stage with ken following behind. Tetsu took off his straps to his bass and kneels as he played the bass like a harp while yukihiro banged on the drum set. The ending was phenomenal, leaving fans screaming for more. All in different outfits, Laruku comes back out again to walk all the way to the middle of the crowds on a stage with tropical trees at the corners. It was a perfect stage for "Perfect Blue". Tetsu totally shines in his solo here, and the song relaxes the crowd after the intense performance of "Shout at the Devil". The sound of an engine is heard after they arrive back on the main stage. Sparks flew out in front of the stage as it danced to the beat of "Driver's High". The crowd joins in to sing "Clash!" and "Flash!" with tetsu almost conducting the audience. "Blurry Eyes" is another favourite, with them playing faster than usual (on the album version). Ken runs across the stage as a camera catches yukihiro taking a glimpse and chuckling. Hyde joins up with tetsu on the side of the stage as they sang together. The audience unite to sing the chorus of the song as the song suddenly stops after tetsu and hyde sing "why do you stare at the sky with your blurry eyes?". Tetsu does his own MC, asking how everyone is, with ken pretending to be the crowd, making faces at the camera. The song picks up again so |

GCC Rocks!!

This VCD is great! The concert includes songs mainly from albums Ark and Ray, but even go into some from Heart (all wonderful albums). The opening at the beginning is amazing, the camera scans over the entire audience which is huge! What I really loved about this VCD was that all of Laruku's members looked like they were having a great time. A couple times Hyde, Tetsu, and Ken will all be playing their guitars/bass together and the chemistry between the members is just kawaii ^^ There are lots of close-ups of all the members too~ Hyde sticks his tongue out a lot =p, Tetsu does some cute footwork (even with his big shoes ^-^), Ken gets really into his playing as usual, and Yukihiro plays guitar at the beginning (after that Haido takes over). There is a change of stage and a little backstage too. Throughout the VCD, it is mainly one location of the Grand Cross Tour, but in some songs the views change to other GCT performaces of the same song. I highly recommend this VCD, the performances are great and the quality of the light/camera angle really allow you to enjoy this wonderful concert. |

fairly good.
| overall it's not bad. but i realised that most of the MC part was not included in the VCDs. i read from a magazine article about this concert, there was 1 MC after every 3 songs, but in the VCDs, can only see in the middle of "Blurry Eyes" and the other 1 song(forgot which one). 'coz the MC were done in the middle of the songs, so there's no way to cut it. maybe the Japanese version is more "complete". i don't have it, so i'm not sure. |
