8 out of 10... Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Well, first I'll say two things: The singer's voice is absolutely wonderful! A clear and mellow soprano. Also, there is NO English on here, which I personally am glad of. If I want English music, I wouldn't buy Japanese! However, this CD is definitly not mainstream. If I had to classify it in a specific genre...I'd be lost. It's certainly not pop...but it's not rock by any stretch. Nor is it R&B. I suppose "easy listening" is the closest, although some tracks (like track #6) is almost dance. There is a lot of unique instrumentalization on this. The regular piano and guitar, but also lots of woodwinds and other items that are unidentifiable to me. I think this CD's listening is best suited to a romantic dinner for two with gracious servings of wine. At least, that's what I think of when I hear it. It's certainly overall too slow to be a pick-me-up CD and it's too dark to be played while driving or trying to get work done. While I'm not dissapointed in the purchase, it leaves me baffled as to what exactly this artist was trying to create in this project. It has no clear purpose. I think the closest person I could compare her to would be "Enya". Or the band "Clannad". Yes, some of the arrangements sound almost Gaelic...although the language is Japanese. As for fellow Japanese singers, well, I can think of no-one she is even remotely similiar too. That could be a good or bad thing, depending on your tastes. I doubt I will play this much or order more by her...but like I said...now I have something for those candlelit dinners with my husband and good sweet wine. This makes excellent background music, but I don't really think it's strong enough to stand on itself. And you know, with her voice...she could REALLY stand out if she chose! She sings like an angel and has a wide range of abilities. Still, she sticks to the same rythmns and tunes throughout the CD making it rather like one long song than 12 individual ones. And truth be told...they ARE all one long song. There is not one second of pause between tracks. They are all run together and you have to actually WATCH the CD player go from track to track to realize it's a different song. The only song that is different than the rest on here is track #10, which sounds almost like Latin R&B in mood and tone. But other than #6 and #10...it's baiscally one long song. A neat arrangement, but not a stand-out among them really. But if you like easy listening with hints of Latina and R&B flavours...you'd enjoy this. If you want pure pop or rock...stay far away. You won't find either here. Still, for something absolutely different than anything else on the scene today: this qualifies. It's not bad...just very, very different and hard to explain.

I really want to buy this...need help... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
None of this singer's albums have been reviewed. Is she good? What does she sound like? Often, I can tell a singer's style by looking at the album cover, but this only shows her back...so I have no idea. Is she more pop like Kokia, Yozuca and Chihiro, or is she more rock like KOTOKO, ZARD and U-Ka Saegusa IN dbII? I want to know something about this CD before I buy it. Mostly about her voice (is she a soprano or alto) and stlye (pop, rock, metal/electronic, hip hop or R&B)? Please help me decide if I should purchase this or not. Surely someone has heard of her before...
