The album grows on you

I have the First Press Limited Edition, which is the same as the Normal Edition in terms of the music tracks. The Yes Asia review provides more information than the liner notes on these tracks. For those unable to read Japanese, it turns out that six songs are TV, movie or PS2 themes. Instead of a collection of first time pieces the album is a hybrid, six finalized songs from various programs accompanied by other complimentary pieces. Ms. Hirahara doesn't display the variety of vocal styles found in "From To" but I find that the variety in the arrangements and instrumentation makes the album quite interesting to listen to. The album has grown on me as I've listened to it and I constantly have parts of one song or another song floating around in my head. |

What really disappointed me about this album is how it offers practically nothing new. The songs on this album are almost no different from the songs on her first two albums. And yes, Ayaka may have a good voice but this album is a complete bore from beginning to end. Ayaka sings almost every song the same way. So, if you like variety in your Jpop, skip this album and get something else. Even if you like Ayaka, it's better to try something else or you'll regret wasting $27.25 on this thing. I hope for her next album she'll actually try something other than ballads, or else she'll probably end up becoming a third rate artist very soon. |
