Cube Entertainment's hot new girl group 4Minute releases their debut mini-album! Formed by leader Ji Hyun, Ga Yoon, Ji Yoon, So Hyun, and former Wonder Girls member Hyun A, 4Minute made a splash in June with their hit debut single Hot Issue. Now they're raising temperatures further with their first album For Muzik. Big-name producers and songwriters like Lee Sang Ho, Kim Dong Hoon, Hwang Sung Jin, and Shinsadong Tiger helped create For Muzik's seven sizzling tracks, giving 4Minute's album a fresh and vibrant edge in the midst of K-pop's competitive girl group boom. Composed by Lee Sang Ho, 4Minute's red-hot new single MUZIK is a euroclub street sound dance track that makes use of analog, side-chain, and tape sound. Hot Issue producer Shinsadong Tiger composed "Won't Give" (Track 6), a clean and groovy slow-tempo piece with lyrics by Hwang Sung Jin. For Muzik also comes with the colorful fusion house number "Funny" (Track 5) and a remix version of Hot Issue.

인상적인 가사와 카리스마 넘치는 사운드로 만들어진 INTRO “FOR MUZIK”으로 시작되는 미니앨범은 타이틀곡 “MUZIK”을 포함한 총 7트랙의 곡들로 구성되었고, 4MINUTE의 음악적 열정과 달콤하기 만한 아이돌 그룹의 음악들과 달리 성숙한 아티스트로서의 면모를 과감히 보여주는 곡들로 알차게 담겨있다. 국내 최고의 프로듀서들이 참여한 4MINUTE의 미니앨범은 신사동호랭이, 이상호 ,김도훈, 황성진 등이 참여하였으며, 신선한 음악적 시도를 통해 완성도를 더했다.
타이틀곡 “MUZIK”은 작곡가 이상호와 신사동호랭이의 작품으로 유럽의 클럽에서 유행하고 있는 Street Sound에 쉽고 간결한 멜로디의 구성이 돋보이는 곡이다. Track making 초기부터 유럽의 DJ, Producer들과의 활발한 음악적 교류를 통해 국내가요에서 찾아 볼 수 없는 'TAPE' SOUND와 'SIDE CHAIN'기법이 사용되었으며, 아날로그적인 소스와 간결한 편곡이 조화를 이루었다. 포미닛 멤버의 각 목소리를 신디사이징시켜 마치 악기와 같은 효과를 내어 독특한 분위기를 연출하였고, 일상생활에서 느끼는 지루한 갈증을 포미닛의 음악으로 풀어준다는 내용의 가사에 신선하고 매끈한 사운드가 어울려 더욱더 빛을 발했다.
'what a girl wants' 는 제목이 곡의 내용을 말해주듯이 남자들이 모르는 여자들의 작은 바램들을 표현한 곡으로써 밝은 멜로디에 과거 유행하였던 808sound를 활용하여 현재와 과거의 신선한 접목을 시도하였다. 멤버 지윤의 스타일리쉬한 랩을 접할 수 있고 가윤의 호소력 짙은 가창력이 돋보이는 곡이다.
“웃겨”는 한국 최고의 작곡가 김도훈의 곡으로 최근 유행하고 있는 하우스 비트에 셔플이 결합된 하이브리드 하우스곡으로써 묵직한 베이스와 짜임새있는 멜로디 구성이 돋보이며, 꽉 찬 코러스와 재미있는 가사가 어울려 기존 포미닛의 색깔이 아닌 전혀 다른 스타일의 곡이다. 귓가에 맴도는 후렴구가 인상적이고 자신감 넘치는 여성을 표현하였다.
”안 줄래” 는 작곡가 신사동호랭이와 작사가 황성진의 작품으로 SLOW TEMPO의 GROOVE한 감성이 돋보이는 곡으로 트렌디한 멜로디 구성과 직설적인 가사내용이 인상적인 곡이다. 깔끔한 사운드와 다양한 구성이 곡의 분위기를 한층 고조시키는 곡이다.

Surprisingly good
| I was very surprised by how much I like this CD. Normally I can't stand heavy voice effects and this isn't really my main genre. However, I really like Muzik (it was the first song I heard) and For Muzik, which I see as kind of an intro to Muzik (because it's used as an intro in the music video). I was a little hesitant about Hot Issue because of the chorus, but that song grew on me too. 안줄래 (Won't Give) and What a girl wants are also very good. The only song that's "skippable" is 웃겨 (Funny), but that's not a bad song either. I like how all songs are "single material". Normally there's one or two good songs on a mini-album, but this CD is very good from beginning to end. |

More Identikit Girl Pop - Pun Sa? Gimme O

Can’t help finding it ironic that these girls are called 4 Minute (Korean: Pun Sa) considering they have 5 (Korean: O) members and this CD’s songs being no longer than 3 minutes and a bit. Maybe calling the gals ‘Identikittens 5 [at] 3 Minuets+’ would have been a more apt name. Okay, I’m joking! 4 Minutes it is! But no doubting 4 Minutes could soon be the amount of time a new K-pop girl band bursts into view (or, worryingly, their ‘sleep time’). Anyway, “For Muzik” is a quality K-pop dance album that reflects similarly 2NE1’s recently released super dance-electro hip-hop fest and with punchy euro-pop numbers. Packaging is also excellent with a nice boxed album inside a silver protective bag, which as a whole makes this look like a computer hardware component instead of a music CD (or maybe a new peripheral update to the current Girl Band sound trend). Nice though. All songs are very likable, certainly danceable, especially “Muzik” and its intro and the track “Hot Issue” and with some quite unusual additions like the electric-cabaret disco “Funny” and the nice repeat vocal refrain from “Won’t Give”. The girls have great enthusiasm and commitment and A Hyun as most know was an original singer from Wonder Girls, now getting her taste for success and credit. It’s a shame that K-pop girl bands rarely perform live concerts though, and of course hardly any concert DVDs (even MV collections). Hopefully BEG’s 2009 New York gig, Wonder Girls in the US and the soon to be live 2NE1 concerts will emerge on DVD. For 4 Minute, too, of course. Singing live is a challenge, but the rewards for the girls must be immense. Although I probably wouldn’t be able to see such live concerts, I know many must be aching to catch their favorites live, and for me it would be nice to see them via concert DVDs at least. Although “For Muzik” is an high quality album, my other concern is the K-girl pop trend becoming over saturated into a clichéd identikit pop format, and so any future hybrid dynamic dance-sound-visual fusion (or something like that) should always be nurtured to keep the girl K-pop momentum going and to constantly shift and groove into new dance sounds for new songs to remain fresh. Like No 5 might say in Short Circuit ‘K-pop always need new input!’ Anyway, I like this 4 Minute mini album with its youthful sound and electric dance and if you love 2NE1’s first mini and want more popular girl band K-pop, you should go for this CD! |

I bought this cd a wees ago, and I do not regret it whatsoevr!! Very upbeat and beautiful singers. What a girl wants is my favorite song, always on replay. Buy it if you haven't!! |

| These songs are great! For Muzik features short, overproduced pop songs that are not entirely original, immature, sung in a language I cannot understand, and yet I've listened to this "mini" album everyday since its release. Personal favorite: the 1 min 25 sec long intro "For Muzik". Why? I don't know, but it now has the highest play count in my iTunes library. |

A++ 4Minute!

I really enjoyed this album. They hooked me right away with "Hot Issue" and after waiting so long for more songs from the girls, they definitely didn't disappointment with "For Muzik". My favourite tracks are probably "안줄래 (Won't Give)" and "웃겨 (Funny)" although "What A Girl Wants" is definitely good as well. I can't say that I disliked any of the songs on the album, if I'm being honest. I could have done without all the autotune, but that's the trend these days, isn't it? All in all, a great album! I can't wait to see what 4Minute has to offer in the future! |
