YesAsia Editorial Description

Elva sparkles with new musical fire!

The superstar went to New York to team up with a top musician to produce great new dance beats for her latest 7th album "The Fifth Avenue"! What's more she also took up the post as singer for the theme of the new blockbuster "Sound of colors" that stars Tony Leung and Miriam Yeung and whose novel was written by Taiwanese popular novelist Jimmy Liao!

Talented Elva expressed that she is allowed to involve in just about every step of the album making process starting from the song selections up to the compositions. As a result she considers each and every work like a baby of hers just as if she put out a best of album.

Professional Review of "5th Avenue (Limited Edition)"

June 18, 2008

This professional review refers to 5th Avenue (2nd Version)

She Delivers: "Fifth Avenue" ~ Hsiao Ya, Elva

On the up and coming Valentine's Day (14 Feburary 2004), Elva will hold several concerts with such talented songwriters and singers as Eason Chen, Tao Che and Wang LeeHom in Taiwan. Not before long has she released her 7th Mandarin album "Fifth Avenue", there are ten new tunes and one more in dance version. Among the eleven songs are several theme songs of various movies, TV dramas and animations, they have certainly made "Fifth Avenue" even more popular.

New quality album consists of various musical genres. Though it may not be as groundbreaking as her previous albums were, it has met most of her fans' expectation.

The leading track "Sound Of Colors" (Track#3) is the theme song of its movie. Both the music and lyrics are brilliant, however, Elva did not do her best in the song. Afterall, the fact that the particular song demands too much for a singer to master, of which not even Elva could have, is tricky.

"Postcard From The Fifth Avenue" (Track#4) starts with classical music by piano and then comes the modern music. It obviously aims to repond as echo to the album poster taken on The Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Many different artists contribute to "Passwords For Love" (Track#1), which is also a quality "Elva song". Yet, unlike Elva's previous tunes such "Let It Go" and "How Brilliant To Be Alone", it could sound boring after you have repeatedly listened to it.

Animation theme song "You Are My Amazement" (Track#10)is a common emotion-venting song. The well-written blessing tune reminds us of "I Found It" by HE YunShiby. This may not be the best theme song for the animation, but is certainly a cool love song. As for other pieces, "Speechless" (Track#9) and "Losing You" (Track#5) are good too.

Recommendations: "You Are My Amazement" (Track#10), "Postcard From The Fifth Avenue" (Track#4), "Sound Of Colors" (Track#3)

Very good Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I have listened to all of Elva's albums. Her earlier albums are better because her pronunciation is clearer and I feel her singing technique & style was very nice. But I still enjoyed this 5th Avenue album because I like the music and her voice is still very nice. She has a very soft sexy voice.

Great songs, best album Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This album is not perfect, but imo the best album of Elva since her debut. My favorite is "map of happiness" and the remix of it. The songs fit very well with the New York theme. I am so glad to see that Elva enjoyed her trip. The album is created with feeling and heart. If you haven't listened to Elva yet, then I must tell you that her voice has volume and tone, different/superior to any pop-princess.

Best cd to date Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
i feel this is Elva's best cd to date. i love the style on the music and how she sings the songs. she has a very nice sexy sultry powerful yet subtle voice when she sings. this is my most favorite Elva cd. my favorite tracks are #1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11 (track #11 is the remix version of #6, but i really love this song which is the theme song for the Taiwanese tv series 100% Senorita).

Too Much Hype Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
I only like the first two tracks on this album. There was way too much hype and fuss about Elva coming to New York City that propelled this album, and caused many people to have such high expectations that I don't think has been met. Comparing the ballads on this album with those of her previous releases such as the infamous song, "Kiss", you really feel let down because they just don't come close. Anyhow, this album is inconsistent, sorry to say that it's really not that great.
