Gordon Liu (36th Chamber of Shaolin) and Norman Tsui (Duel to the Death) have one heck of A Bloody Fight on their hands in director Wilson Tong's 1988 tale of two friends on opposite sides of the law. Tong, Liu, and Tsui would re-team for the following year's similarly themed A Fiery Family, but A Bloody Fight gets an extra boost from the presence of legendary directors Lau Kar Leung (Executioners from Shaolin) and Chor Yuen (Swordsman and Enchantress), who step in front of the camera to play memorable supporting roles. With its tortured antiheroes and elaborate action sequences, A Bloody Fight is a textbook example of Hong Kong's "heroic bloodshed" genre.

As children, Fai (Liu) and Keung (Tsui) were the best of friends, but a decade apart finds the two men following drastically different paths. Fai has joined the police force and enjoys a respectable life minding his little sister Mui, while Keung has become irrevocably entrenched in the underworld as a triad hitman. A chance meeting reunites the old friends, and a budding romance with Fai's sister inspires Keung to quit his life of crime. But the triads are hardly willing to let him go without a fight, and Keung's boss engineers a tragedy that threatens to turn the childhood pals into the bitterest of enemies.
