《幽異仲夏》為1988年「山本周五郎賞」的得獎小說，日本名作家山田太一原著，由新浪潮導演大林宣彥搬上銀幕。故事瀰漫著幽異世界詭異氛圍，同時充滿令人動容的感情。
男主角原田是一位失婚的戲劇作家，雙親早在廿八年前一宗車禍中喪生。一天，原田在淺草重遇父母的鬼魂。為了回味昔日的親情，他不斷前去看望，同時身體也變得越來越虛弱……另一邊廂，原田新結識的女友阿系也似乎有著一段不為人知的過去……
TV script writer Harada, divorced, lives alone in an apartment. One night, he meets at Asakusa the spirits of his parents, who died in an accident 28 years ago. Feeling relaxed, rather than terrified, Harada visits them often. He becomes weaker by the day, and his new girlfriend, Kei, is a little strange as well. She seems to have a past that should not be told…… A mixture of touching melancholy and unpleasant shock moments, the film is based on the award-winning novel by Yamada Taichi and directed by the new wave director Obayashi Nobuhiko of Sayonara, Me (1982), Miss Lonely (1985) and Sada (1998).
