The Learning Circle , a film by Yamada Yoji and a follow-up to his 1993 hit A Class To Remember , is a moving story about the daily life of teachers and students at a high school for mentally-handicapped children . In this film , Yamada has depicted vividly and with genuine emotion the dreams and expectations he has for all schools and teacher : ‘’Education is much more than merely minting students who are easy for schools and teachers to handle . A teacher’s job is more than just teaching and guiding students , it is also to associate closely with them’’

Unforgettable Yamada Yoji film Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
"The Learning Circle" is an unsparing yet uplifting look at a school for the handicapped. It focusses on a set of three teachers, who gain insight and maturity as they seek to aid their mentally challenged young charges, and on one particular student, so severely repressed that he speaks to no one, who begins to emerge from his shell as he learns to help a fellow student.

We follow the repressed student as he struggles to cope with school and workplace training. The repressed student is very aware of his disability and suffers as he yearns to lead a normal life. He flees the school with his more severely disabled friend in order to do something a normal teenager would do: Attend a Namie Amuro concert. Their journey to the concert and the teachers' search for the lost students becomes the film's central theme.

"The Learning Circle" is both heartbreaking and heartwarming as we come to care about these handicapped students and their self-sacrificing teachers. Director Yamada Yoji skillfully navigates this terrain, drawing the viewer in without ever making the film overly manipulative. (Director Yamada closes the movie with an homage to the equally uplifting French film classic "The Red Balloon".)

I recommend "The Learning Circle" very highly to everyone.
