Entertaining Tora-San film Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"Tora-San, His Tender Love" is a curiosity for all Tora fans because it is one of only two films in the entire Tora-San series that was not directed by Yamada Yoji. Let's just say it is directed in the style of Yamada Yoji.

Tora returns to Toraya only to find that the "octopus" has set him up for a meeting with a prospective bride. Tora gets very nervous about the meeting and we begin to get a hint about something that is fleshed out in more detail in subsequent movies: Tora is great at falling in love, but when marriage appears to be imminent, he gets cold feet due to his low self-esteem.

Tora goes to meet the potential bride only to find that this is a woman he knows well from his life on the road. Moreover, he knows that she loves another man, with whom she has had a falling out. And he learns that she is pregnant. Tora quickly patches up the two lovers, but does so in a hilarious way that leaves his aunt and uncle infuriated and sends him back on the road.

Next we find Tora working in a hot springs hotel. Naturally, he is in love with the hotel's owner, a beautiful widow. At the inn, Tora patches up another frayed relationship, then learns the inevitable about the widow.

Basically, it is business as usual for Tora in "His Tender Love". While this film lacks the depth of the Yamada Yoji-directed Tora films, it has several of the most memorable scenes in the entire series.

"His Tender Love" is highly recommended for a general audience and is essential for all fans of the Tora-San series.
