The fifteenth instalment and the most critically acclaimed film in the Tora-san series. Tora-san meets the weird and lonely Hyodo in the Northeast. Hyodo is determined to leave his home in Tokyo and goes back to Hokkaido to find his true love that he has not seen for 30 years. Tora-san accompanies him and meets Lily again on their way! He found out that Lily has divorced her husband and becomes a songstress again. After some small talks, they quarreled with each other on the subject of women's happiness. Surprisingly, they meet again in Tokyo and fall madly in love. Just when everybody thinks that they are made for each other, and Lily is willing to marry Tora-san, Tora-san suddenly refuses to marry Lily....

Ruriko Asaoka reprises her role after appearing in Tora-san's Forget Me Not.

Will Tora and Lily wed? Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The film "Tora-San's Forget Me Not" introduced us to Lily Matsuoka (Ruriko Asaoka), an itinerant singer who strikes up a great friendship with Tora. At the end of that film, Lily has married the owner of a sushi shop, left her singing behind, and is working in the shop. Lily returns in "Tora-San Meets the Songstress Again", the fifteenth and arguably the greatest film in this wonderful series.

After the film's opening dream sequence (featuring Tora as a pirate king who saves his family from the grasp of a slave trader), Lily strolls into Toraya and tells Tora's family that she has divorced her husband and is returning to the road and her singing career. In the next scene we find Tora in Hokkaido, where he is accompanied by Hyodo, a middle-aged business executive from Tokyo who has walked away from his family and job to experience freedom from all responsibilities (echoing Lily fleeing the shackles of domestic life).

Eventually and inevitably, Tora and Hyodo run into Lily in Hokkaido. Tora and Lily are thrilled to be reunited. The three of them travel together to a town in which Hyodo's college sweetheart (and only true love) resides. Hyodo learns that she now is widowed and running a coffee shop in the town. He goes to visit her and finds that she still is youthful and lovely. Hyodo loses his nerve and flees from this possible romantic entanglement (foreshadowing this film's end). Soon thereafter, Tora and Lily get into a silly tiff that escalates until Lily's feelings are bruised and she walks away from Tora.

Next we find Tora back in Shibamata with his family, ruing his boorish behavior toward Lily and yearning to apologize to her. Lily comes looking for Tora, they are reunited, and become fast friends once again. Tora's sister Sakura asks Lily if she might be willing to marry her brother. Lily says that, yes, she would marry Tora. Are wedding bells now in Tora's future?

Watch this superb film to see how director Yamada Yoji beautifully navigates the answer to this question. The film features another memorable performance by Ruriko Asaoka and the typically fine regular cast of this series. It also features some really lovely cinematography. This is a great film, folks -- buy it!
