Tora loves a lovely nurse Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
In "Tora-San's Lullaby", the fourteenth film in this great series, Shimojo Masami arrives as the third (and longest-running) actor to play Tora's uncle. The role fits him like a glove.

While on the road in a picturesque seaside resort town in Kyushu, Tora tries to cheer up a man who has been left with the care of his incessantly crying infant son after his wife abandons him. Much to Tora's shock, after a night of drinking, the man disappears, leaving the baby with Tora. Tora swiftly returns to his aunt and uncle's home in Tokyo, with the baby strapped to his back. They (and the entire neighborhood) assume that the baby is Tora's illegitimate son.

Tora expects his sister Sakura and his aunt to take care of the baby. Tora wants nothing to do with the tyke ... until a pretty nurse (Toake Yukiyo) visits Toraya and coos over the infant. As usual, Tora immediately falls for the nurse. One of the great charms of this film is to see how Tora's childless aunt embraces the baby as her own and to see her disappointment when the baby's father arrives to reclaim him.

Over the course of the film, we see Tora and the nurse develop a real friendship. When the nurse asks Tora why he hasn't married, it seems that there is a chance that they might have a future together. Tora then discovers that the director of a choir in which Sakura and the nurse sing also is in love with the nurse. Tora urges the director to tell the nurse of his love. Tora never views the odd-looking director as a rival; he assumes that the nurse will shoot the director down and that the director then will be able to seek a more realistic attachment.

Is there a future for Tora and the nurse? Or has Tora miscalculated and will the nurse embrace the choir director? Watch this delightful film to find out. I recommend "Tora-San's Lullaby" very highly.
