Norman Tsui (Duel to the Death) and Gordon Liu (36th Chamber of Shaolin) make a bid for A Better Tomorrow-style box office gold in director Wilson Tong's 1989 triad tale, A Fiery Family, which reunites much of the same cast and crew from the previous year's A Bloody Fight. Both films spin the old familiar yarn about the noble gangster and his fight to free himself from his underworld existence, and A Fiery Family in particular borrows heavily from the pages of both A Better Tomorrow and The Godfather. But with its blood-is-thicker-than-water message and unabashed action movie sensibilities, A Fiery Family goes where few gangster movies tread as the entire family gets in on the gun-blazing action!

Triad hitman Koo (Tsui) wants to leave the organization so he can help his sister Ming run a respectable business. Asked to perform one final mission, Koo walks into a trap set up by his own boss, which lands Koo with a four-year prison sentence. Upon his release, Koo finds his little brother Pang knee-deep in the criminal underworld and his sister's husband Wei (Liu) knee-deep in debt. Koo's crooked former boss offers the family a way out of their woes if the brothers agree to exterminate a pesky lawyer, but the deal threatens to draw even Ming and Wei into a violent life of crime.
