The two are at odds, but gradually find friendship and quite possibly something more. She is a social climber with no scruples. He is an unlicensed cab driver. They happen to live under the same roof. They don't get along well and despise each other. But she needs his car for class. So he takes her to her glorious and inglorious moments. He gradually realizes even her life is not a piece of cake. They begin to become parts of each other. She decides to buy a taxi and live on his earnings. However, the rioters get in the way. First, they wind up a celebrating party in the police station. Then the rioters burn his taxi. She begins to despair, so she accepts a rich man's offer to go to the New World. When the ship is about to leave, she is hesitating. The rioters ring the dock and police are under order to shoot and kill. Unfortunately, he must pass through the rioters to get to the terminal. Does he succeed? Or, should he succeed?
