Ozu revisits his themes on postwar Japan with a storyline similar to Ozu's own Woman of Tolyo. With her husband away at the frontline of the battlefield, a young mother has to support her family all by herself. In order to save her ailing son, the youn mother was forced to prostitute herself for one night.Upon her husband's return from the war, she honestly told him what had happened. However, her husband responds with a shocking and physical savagery that is so atypical of Ozu. Tanaka and Sano ignite these comples and torured roles with profound humanism.

Very good drama
|
A soldier returns home from World War 2 and finds out that his wife had to sell herself as a porstitute once to get enouth money to save their son's life. He is extremely angry and decides to leave his wife. His friends tell him his wife had no choice, that he is wrong feeling the way he does and he should accept what happened and understand, forgive and have compassion for his wife who is also suffering. This is a very good and underrated drama |
