YesAsia Editorial Description
Three years after the hit Hong Kong romantic actioner A Moment of Romance (1990), director Benny Chan and producer Johnnie To teamed up again to make the even more hard-hitting sequel. Replacing the original's star Andy Lau with fellow Canto-pop king Aaron Kwok, A Moment of Romance II stars returning female lead Jacklyn Wu in another gangland romance, with TVB star Roger Kwok, acclaimed actors Anthony Wong and Paul Chun rounding out the main cast.
Mainlander Xiao Qian (Jacklyn Wu) sneaks into Hong Kong hoping to find a living, but ends up getting embroiled in a gang conflict soon after being sold into prostitution. Fortunately for her, a biker named Fu (Aaron Kwok) saves her life. Born in a wealthy but broken family, Fu is this brooding, melancholic young man, but before long he begins to cheer up with the optimistic Qian around. As love blossoms between the two, Qian decides to leave Fu so as to keep him away from the dangerous underworld. But Fu, tasting love finally, just won't give her up so easily...

Good Effort

I purchased this movie mainly because of Roger Kwok Chun On. From certain angles, a young Roger could pass off as Leslie Cheung. Although he only had a supporting role, it was well portrayed. Never watched an Aaron Kwok movie before but from this experience, he reminds me of Jay Chou - not much emotional expressions but possibly casted as eye-candy. A simple plot of rich boy imposing a sort of 'run-away exile' existence because he felt he was to be blamed for his mother's death in a car accident. Communication breakdown with dad and hoping for forgiveness (dad blamed Aaron) , he decided to leave home and 'drown' his sorrows by participating in high-speed motocycle racing to earn fast cash. He has a good mate in Roger Kwok (who used to be Ace 1 too but lost half a leg due to one of those races). Jacklyn Wu was an ordinary girl from mainland China and out of desperation to raise money to help her brother out of jail, she agreed to work as a prostitute in Hong Kong. The 'boss' decided to take the virgin on her first assignment and unfortunately in a moment of struggle, he was injured and was half unconscious. The pimp decided to seize the moment and finish him off in order to take over. This was witnessed by Jacklyn, who by now fled the murder scene. As an illegal prostitute she cannot go to the police and went on the run. In the midst of confusion, she had an unfortunate incident with police officer Kwan Hoi San. On the run, she was 'rescued' by Aaron by sheer co-incidence and he decided to help her and allowed her to stay in his apartment. As the story goes, love grows. The pimp and police officer still in pursuit all the time trying to flush her out of her hiding. Meanwhile, Aaron's dad decided to return to the USA and wanted to reconcile with Aaron. Through Jacklyn's intervention, they finally did on the day of his departure. But what fate and destiny awaits him and Jacklyn and his loyal friend Jack (Roger Kwok)?? A tear=jerking finale........... |

There are lots of bad language, motor cycle racings, violence and explosions, just like many other films made in Hong Kong but as a whole it is watchable. Both Aaron and Jacklyn match each other well and Wong C.S. could be rude but funny. |

Very Romantic

i think this movie has a good plot, although the ending is too sad :( but it was made in the earlier 90's, when Aaron still had that innocent look. it is a good story about being at the wrong place at the wrong time, poverty, family love and first love too. the events are ao tragic too... girls, if you like love films, this one is the type where you would cry, because i sure did. definitly worth the $5 too! |

Hey, it's Aaron...

This by far, has been the best romance movie Aaron ever stared in. Passion, romance, action, and plot - you name it and you'll get it. Oh, and did I mention Aaron was sizzling HOT? I would've given it a 10 has the co-star been someone else *prettier* than Jacqueline Wu. |

Aaron Kwok stars in the sequel to Andy Lau's "A Moment of Romance." "A Moment of Romance II" is filled with a series of unpredictable turns of events. Both Aaron Kwok, who plays Frank, and Chien-lien Wu, who plays Celia, have talented acting skills. In truth, "A Moment of Romance" has quite an impressive cast - reason enough to buy this DVD. While Aaron Kwok and Chien-lien Wu light the screen up on fire with obvious passion in their roles, supporting actors add fuel. Such familiar names as Roger Kwok, Anthony Wong, and Paul Chu contribute much to this film's deserved success. Each aspect was filmed to give the audience a thrill. "A Moment of Romance II" never fails to give the audience a tremor here, a trepidation there. With a well-developed plot and strong character development, this film soars to enormous heights, for it concentrates on several relationships without weakening the story. The affection between Frank and Celia, the loyalty between Frank and Jack, the love Frank has for his mother, and the yearning for forgiveness Frank wishes for from his father. Can't ask for more. One can't forget "A Moment of Romance II"'s heart-warming score. With a soundtrack so powerful, audiences were heading for the CD stores straight from the theatre. Motorcycle scenes are impressive, for they were filmed and choreographed much better than Andy Lau's later award-winning film, "Full Throttle." With an unforgettable story that never flickers, performances given by the cast are brought to justice with wonderful cinematography, camera angles, lighting, set, and dialogue. This is a must-see, for it is one of Aaron Kwok's most successful performances. - Priscilla |
