Stefanie is back Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
This album is a solid effort from arguably one of the most talented Manadarin-language female artists. Her distinctive voice shines through on the tracks, with its almost Irish folk qualities. Overall, the album has a very summery vibe compared to the more Parisian tones of the last album.

The cover art and insert booklet photos are well-shot and cute, and her new red hairstyle suits her (which is odd since it would not suit many people).

The title track 'Perfect Day' is great fun, although nothing groundbreaking (although it's good to see Stefanie choosing a more up-tempo track as the lead song for the first time).

Other tracks that stand out are 'Yin Xing Ren'/'Invisible Person' (track 3), 'Liu Lang Di Tu'/'Wanderer's Map' (track 4), 'Di Yi Tian'/'The First Day' (track 5), and 'Xin Yuan'/'Heart's Desire' (track 7). All in all, this album is beautiful if not groundbreaking. It seems that Stefanie never makes a disappointing album, but I would like to see her work outside the square a little more on the next album.

disappointing Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
I've heard better songs of hers. I did not like her new album at all. The songs are so boring. A total waste of my money.

Her Desired Happiness Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
When I arrived at my favorite music store looking for Stefanie Sun’s ninth album A Perfect Day, the cover impressed me instantly. Crisply shot and rich in colors, the album is artistically more attractive than ever, especially when compared to her defining second album My Desired Happiness – half her face was covered by hair in front of a dim backdrop. An extra booklet is bundled in this Hong Kong edition. Inside you find a picture CD, ten postcards and a sticker sheet. They look nothing more than eye-candies at first, but actually go quite well with the relaxed, happy mood in most of the songs. Though I feel she doesn’t need the fancy packaging so many Hong Kong singers are lost in.

A Perfect Day (01) cannot be put down to a specific genre, as are most Stefanie Sun albums. In the recent two or three years she has displayed great flexibility and a willingness to experiment with different genres. One observable trend is a shift towards positivism. In Sun’s early songs, remembrance of the past and a desire for unfussy happiness and love were common in the lyrics. In A Perfect Day, many of the songs (such as A Perfect Day, The First Day, and Honey Honey) are uplifting and portray a relaxed lifestyle. It might be that Stefanie Sun’s view on life has changed – from a curious (somewhat rebellious) teenager to a more satisfied young woman.
Top hit A Perfect Day is about the singer’s hope for a nice life in a comfortable new home. Nothing is asked for except basic necessities and the freedom to run around freely.

The simple yet self-sufficient house might reflect Stefanie Sun’s current state of mind (rumors are she is/is about to be married). So it’s natural that she enjoys life with things and people she likes, as well as the music. A Perfect Day is full of energy and starts off with pace, only to wither away towards the end probably because of too many loops. Nevertheless, the song carries British beats with the help of electronic instruments which makes it an ideal, powerful introduction to the album.

Stefanie Sun has collaborated with many new faces in the album – notably popular Hong Kong lyricist Lin Xi. Lin wrote the words for Tears Turned into a Poem (02), a typical break-up song like the hundreds he had written before. It’s about a broken relationship with the crestfallen girl choosing to disguise her tears into a poem. The lyric is very poetic, even to a surreal extent. Tears Turned into a Poem sounds much like a song in the 80s because love songs nowadays are more down-to-earth to appeal to most of the audience. The melody is okay, but the words are stale.

The First Day (05) is a work jointly produced by Stefanie Sun and Taiwan groups May Day and F.I.R. This is easily the song which stands out most. The prelude carries a strange, exotic feeling. Irish? Or some kind of folk music. The melody is lighthearted and whimsical at the same time. The background vocals go well with the quick beats and the youthful energy cried out in the song.

Stefanie Sun delivers the song in a playful manner and “also sounds like she had fun recording this song” . Although The First Day does not mean to tell a particular message, Sun’s delivery is natural and again goes well with the overall theme – which seems to be satisfaction with life and optimism towards love and the future.

The final piece of collaborated work is Honey Honey (06), composed and written by young Hong Kong artist Lam Yat Fung. This song is typically Stefanie Sun from its flat range – there’re not obvious highs and lows throughout the song. In fact this monotone makes the song sound very conversational, precisely talking to one’s ‘honey’. As the lyric runs along, you can imagine two lovers whispering to each other over the phone. Maybe this is again an indication of Stefanie Sun’s pre-marriage mood?

Other songs in the album are less refreshing, though A Different Face (08) is a brave experiment. The rhythm is similar to The First Day, but this time more off-the-track. There’re a lot of off-beat keys, and the pace of the song swings rapidly. The lyric emphasizes the feeling of solitude and a dark self.
Overall speaking this album is satisfactory but less inspiring than previous ones. I would give a rating of three and a half stars. As a devoted Stefanie Sun fan, I usually start off with five as a rule and begin from there. But this time not many of the songs are surprising save for a few. Finally, half a star is deducted for the overly-fancy packaging (Sorry Stef, not your fault I know!).
