Product Information

主演:真木藏人、大島弘子
Cast: Maki Kurodo/ Oshima Hiroko
導演:北野武
Director: Kitano Takeshi

A deaf-dumb teenager working as a garbage collector happens upon a battered surfboard, which plants in him the dream of becoming a surf champion. His girlfriend, also deaf-dump, lends him her support during the difficult practice sessions and competitions. Though trapped in silence, their expression of love is no less profound.

A lyrical masterpiece reminding us that images are often as powerful as words. This is Kitano's gift.

An Interesting Film Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
A Scene At The Sea is one of those films that doesn't produce a strong impression when you first watch it, but which you can never forget after seeing it. The two central characters are deaf mute, and the film has very little dialogue. What dialogue it does have does not contribute significantly to the film, and may even be intentionally banal in order to stress the unimportance of spoken language.

Technically, this dvd is badly flawed. It is *approximately* 16:9 format matted into a 4:3 frame with the edges of the image wiggling around noisily, and there is extreme colr bleeding. Alas, this is the only transfer available as far as I know.

This film is in striking contrast with Takeshi Kitano's other films in that there is no violence whatsoever.

Quiet masterpiece Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
Obviously there's not a lot of dialogue in this film. No matter - Shigeru and Takako's love runs so deep, words couldn't begin to express it. 'A Scene at the Sea' is a fabulous movie with a bittersweet ending. The bus stop sequence is highly memorable, and I love Joe Hisaishi's mellow score.

A fustrating movie Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
This is a good movie in some aspects but a very fustrating movie in other aspects. The main character never speaks, yes he is deaf, but he makes no effort at communicating at all, the other main character who isnt deaf probaly only speaks about 5 words during the whole movie, so its hard to figure out what they are thinking half the time. A good movie if you like surfing, plus the main actor is a bit of a spunk. Wouldnt reccomend it to buy though
