A Side, B Side, Seaside (Hong Kong Version) VCD

Chan Wing Chiu has been working in the Hong Kong film industry since the 1990s, and now he pools together a bunch of new actors to make a refreshing title A Side, B Side, Seaside. The film consists of "A Side" and "B Side", reminding us of the VCD format which splits a film into two discs. On "A Side", the VCD of Takeshi Kitano's A Scene At The Sea brings a 17-year-old girl Chan Tim to encounter her first love Ho Fu who works in a VCD shop. She then comes across him on an outlying Island of Hong Kong where she is enjoying an unforgettable summer holiday with her best friends. Radiating the vitality peculiar to 17-year-olds, the four girls seem tireless in trying anything that they have never done before: adult movies, puppy love, first kiss, and many other things.

The story on "B Side" also takes place on this small island. A young girl Ah Mei returns from the urban area to this unsophisticated community to visit two old friends. While recalling memories of their younger days, they also realize that their innocence back then has quietly faded away. "B Side" seems totally unrelated to "Side A" on surface, but Ah Mei's nostalgia of her youthful times may be foretelling what Chan Tim will have to go through one day. "A Side" and "B Side" both take place at seaside, where Chan Tim, Ah Mei, and their friends together sing a song of praise about youth.

　　《十七歲的夏天》是講述兩個女孩-陳甜和阿妹告別青春歲月的故事。整套電影由兩個故事組成。陳甜是個剛完成會考的中學生，正計劃到北京升學。臨別前她跟好友相約到長洲度假，亦在那時初嚐戀愛滋味。縱使這段關係無聲地結束，卻已叫她畢生難忘。與此同時，漁港裡發生著另一個故事。失意於大城市的阿妹，重回自己成長的故鄉，再遇青梅竹馬長大的兩個男孩。當熾熱的陽光灑落在他們赤條條的肌膚上，他們才驚覺自己不再是昔日的小孩子，三人的關係亦起了變化。

　　In two parts just like two sides of a movie disc, the film tells the tales of Chen Tian and Ah Mei. Chen Tian is a schoolgirl in Hong Kong about to leave for Beijing for college. Before she leaves for good, she decides to spend an unforgettable trip with her best friends in a distant fishing village. There she discovers love for the first time. The encounter ever so brief, but has left something she can take away with her forever. At the same fishing village, Ah Mei, a girl who’s had a tough time in the big city, comes back home to the village to revisit her past. She finds herself reuniting with two boys from her childhood. But time has quietly tarnished their friendship, without them ever aware of the innocence lost.
