YesAsia Editorial Description

TVB released the A Step Into The Past in 2001 and achieved a total viewership of more than 2 million people. The original novel blends different genres such as sci-fi, historical, and fantasy to create a captivating story. The TV series A Step Into The Past, while retaining this unique mixture, has slightly changed the plot to make the piece more concise. Louis Koo rose to unprecedented fame with A Step Into The Past, and actresses such as Jessica Hsuan, Sonija Kwok, Joyce Tang, and Michelle Saram were just as eye-catching. Raymond Lam, a new artist back then, took on the challenge of a difficult role but his acting turned out to be a success. A Step Into The Past is the first TVB TV Series on DVD which fans and collectors just cannot miss!

Louis Koo stars as Shiu-lung, a super-cop in the 21st Century when time travelling is no longer a dream. He volunteers to join a scientific experiment of returning to the coronation of the Qin Emperor three thousands years ago. However, by mistake he is transported to the time before when the Qin Emperor was still hostage in another kingdom. Shiu-lung must help him rise to throne so that he can get back to the present... In the course Shiu-lung meets different ancient beauties and has even developed romances with them. Will he survive all the chaos in the Warrior Period in Chinese history? Can he be "back to future"? All the answers lie in A Step Into The Past!

History buff Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I started watching this show in Dec of 2005 but not able to finish it until now. The quality of the disc is very nice . The
picture and sound still good after all these years. I can get into some of the story lines of the first parts.
There is some humor here and
there, especailly about the life style differences between now and then. But, I am not a real history buff so I kind of
lost interest in the middle .That is why
it takes me like 4 years to finish watching this show.

Don't comment on the DVD if you haven't seen it! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I don't understand why people would, and be allowed to, comment on the quality of the DVDs if they haven't even seen it. I have the whole series and I can say that the quality is excellent (by TVB standards); the DVDs are dual-layered and bit rates are consistently in the 6 to 8 MBits range, a far cry from the initial versions released for rental; and it is NOT cut. However, the DVD menu is still as brain-dead as ever; there're no chapter stops within each episode; extras is almost non existent (just a few pieced together K100s); and worse, you can't jump from 1 episode to the next without going through the disc menu.

Really really good up until the last part. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is, to me, one of the funniest and best stories of someone in the present being sent into the past. Many series/stories which have characters who get sent into the past have main characters who never learn how to get around, and are always relying on others. But this one is really different! I really loved the first part of this series, where it was really light-hearted, and realistic. But the second part started to become like your typical chinese series... the characters started becoming stupid, and making simple mistakes. I'm giving this a 10, because the first part was so great, and original.

Enjoyable just don't expect a historical epic. Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
This is a series of a unique kind with Louis Koo going back in time to watch the coronation of Qin ShiHuang. Something goes wrong and he has ended up back in time 2 years earlier.
Naturally alot of things go wrong as he tries means and ways to help the Ying Zheng attain the throne.
Funny moments are mostly in the front due to louis's need to adjust between the different time frames.
There are also alot of 'explanations' as to why certain historical events take place, though i find them too flaky..
Enjoyable show, just that I wont be watching it more than once.
