September 14, 2006 Twisted from dictatorshipThis movie is definitely a piece of art.
The king is a BAD king in Chinese history who unified China but killed lots and lots of scholars, and civilians, and destroyed existing cultures and books.
Unified a kingdom and then killed lots of people and destroyed all previous cultures and books are serious crimes! The hero in this movie should kill the king.
However, in this movie, the story wants to tell the audience that unifying China is a glory itself, and killing lots of civilians is not a crime, is a necessity, is a process.
This is a twisted logic that debase human values.
I heard that this movie was written and funded by a dictationship country -- Mainland China Communist Party.

The King in the kingdom is crazy, doing things based on how he feels. In the movie he was yielding to kill his wife with a sword.
Many officiers in Mainland China concern only their power and fame. They don't do anything good to the civilian people. The movie have two such officiers. One is seeking for the top power and controls, and the other one is full of lies. Both of them fight for their power and fame, instead of for their country nor people.
The killer in black coat sold his soul and his villay people, while he was facing death. He bent to strong power. Mainland China has many such people now.
The only Girl in this movie is low in moral standard. She can give her body to anyone in order to fulfill her desires, from King to officers. In other sense, she looks for someone who really loves her; however she discriminates slavery. She is definitely materialistic. This role reflects the nowaday young girls in Mainland China.
The slave is the only Honest, Truth Telling person in the movie. He is the real one who silently controls the movie plots. He doesn't have any human concepts on king, country, enemy, ... He has two things -- loyalty which was built in in his childhood, and honesty. He is simply true and honest to everyone, to his life. God arranges this honest man to be the winner, winning love and longevity (even though the girl doesn't deserve such high-level love).Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
